And they are being locked because it doesn't specifically state Maxima in the article? C'mon people, it says 23 models including 350Z and G35. How many friggin models do you think Nissan has? 23 models sounds like a huge possiblility that the Maxima is included.

This sounds like a legit topic to discuss here. More so than some of the crap that the mods loet slide in here...

And you seem to be doing a good job personally policing these threads without actually providing any useful information whatsoever. Good job!

So how do we know if this affects us? They seem to list every car with the 3.5VQ in it.

It does say Maxima...

"In the United States, the company recalled the following vehicles under its Nissan brand: 2000-03 Sentras with 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engines; 2002-03 Sentras with 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engines; 2002 Altimas with 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engines; 2001-03 Maximas with 3.5-liter, six-cylinder engines; 2002-03 Altimas with 3.5-liter, six-cylinder engines; 2003 350Z's; and 2003 Muranos."

Well then the recall doesn't know what the hell is going on b/c there was never a production VQ35DE in the 2001 Maxima...

Ah, this is actually a different article than the other threads were discussing. So no mods will be locking this anytime soon. Still, I think it was silly to lock the other threads just because the older article didn't say Maxima...

It looks like they are talking about the production year, not model year.

Interesting. I had my car at the dealer yesterday and that recall wasn't in the system yet.

Here's some more info from Nissan's website:

Background
Nissan/Infiniti will be conducting a voluntary safety recall campaign for engine sensors on certain model year vehicles.

Reason for Action
Vehicles are being recalled for replacement of the engine crank position and cam position sensors. Improper operation of the sensors could cause the engine malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) to illuminate; create a no-start condition or reduced engine power; or cause the engine to stop running without warning during vehicle operation. To this date, no accidents or injuries have occurred.

Nissan Action
To correct this condition, at no charge to the customer, the engine crank position and cam position sensors will be replaced.

Nissan/Infiniti plan to begin notifying owners of potentially affected vehicles in December requesting them to bring their vehicle to a Nissan/Infiniti dealer. In addition to direct customer contact (via mail), Nissan will post recall information on the www.nissanusa.com Web site at the same time owner letters are mailed.

I'm curious on what they mean by "faulty engine sensors" that are being recalled.....

Does the Nissan dealer accommdate for the inconvience? I've never brought in a car for any recall, so I don't know the procedure. Bring in the Max would really be a hassle unless they can arrange for a rental during the repairs.

If it is not in their system yet, which it probably won't be that soon, then they won't be able to help you. They need something to charge their work against, they can't just take your word that there is a recall coming.

This is weired. I can't find any recall info from Nissan site or NHSTA regarding this engine sensor recall. The latest one they have is the GLE with odo issue.

Anyone got informed by dealer or read any official press release?

It's on Nissan's website (e.g. Nissannews.com)

Thanks soundmike.
I checked on nissanusa but didn't get any info about the recall. Sorry about my ignorance.

I guess this explains everything:

I have a 350Z and a 02 Maxima. Some folks over at the 350z forums are saying that its some type of sensor that is causing the Nissan vehicles to not start.

Some Z owners have experienced this already, some even while driving.

Per Nissan:
"No injuries or accidents linked to the defects have been reported."

Way to downplay the significance of this problem, Nissan. No injuries or accidents until someone in a 350Z, Maxima, Altima, etc is trying to pass a semi on the two way highway and the engine shuts off.

More interesting info on the recall here.

http://www.asahi.com/english/nation/...310310136.html

Apparently someone hit the problem in Dec 2002. So that sparked the recall.

new recall

Hi all,

I have a 2000 Maxima GLE with what seems to be the same problems in the new recall. My car won't turn on sometimes, it will turn off while driving it, or the power will just drop. I called Nissan to ask about it the day before yesterday and the girl told me that it was in the new recall, she told me to go ahead and take to a dealer to be fixed at no charge and that if I had any problems to call her back. Well I took it to the dealer yesterday and they told me that my car was not on the recall list because the recall was only for 2001-2003 maximas not the 2000, even thought I have the same problems. I went ahead and called Nissan back only to be tolled that my car was not in the recall list and that the girl that told me it was misinformed me. I almost got hit yesterday because my car turned off while driving it, but the guy in the back was able to stop in time. Has anybody else had this problem with the 2000 maxima or does anybody have any ideas on what I could do??? I've been trying to cantact the girl that I first talked to, but she seems to be away from her desk all day now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
