ok when i was looking at the dyno for the cattman y pipe cattman stated "I'd mentioned that it made more power over stock off-peak than at the maximum horsepower, and that's very much the case. Power is gained everywhere -- especially between 4000-5000rpm -- with a peak power increase of 16hp around 4400rpm. Average hp gain between 3800 and 6200rpm is 7.8 hp." then does it gain 16 hp or 7.8 hp i know that is the average but what about other products like the hotshot headers for the altima it gained 21 whp so the question is is that the average or is that the max hp like cattman. just wondering when companies say they gained power do htey mean max or average???

Companys will state whatever is HIGHER. Mostly, peak gain at XXXXrpm. However, we know you don't drive at a constant EXACT rpm, so a peak number is pretty worthless withOUT the rest of the dyno plot to go along with it.

Cattman is pretty much describing in words what the dyno plot already shows, since people always fixate on the peak number and ignore the more important AREA UNDER THE CURVE, ie power at all RPM.

 

so basicly cattman y pipe gains like 7.8 hp average under the curve??? huh
