My impressions of the Cattman Y-pipe

First off, the install was a pain. This would have been SO much easier to do if I had a lift. The bolts weren't too hard to remove, there were a few that gave me some problems.
Second, I cannot believe the difference this pipe makes. The car absolutely flies through the gears. The exhaust is a little bit raspy, but I think that's mainly due to the lack of resonator and Magnaflow muffler I have. My car feels so powerful now. I was taking off slowly from a roll and then going wot. The tires would completely break loose, and spin through a good part of second gear giving me wheel hop at the same time. I actually said, "oh my god," because I couldn't believe the difference this thing makes. The car pulls really hard in every gear. This is the faster car I have ever rode in now. I would buy this mod again in a heartbeat.
I love my Maxima.

That is good news.
I am torn between Catts y pipe and one of the headers. The headers should give a big weight savings so I am hoping the bugs get worked out on those.

Congrats, I ordered mine today. I will be installing the PR CAI, Cattman y-pipe, and the Cattman SS muffler. It should all be done by next weekend. I will do vids before and after for sound references. Not sure at this point if I will keep the muffler. We will see.

I guess cause you need to move the O2 sensors, the check engine light will come on. I remember an org member disconnected his battery while he was putting the Y-pipe on so it wouldn't trip the check engine light.

Good to hear the power is there even w/ a stock enhaust. And to no difference in noise.

i'd get the headers if it weren't for the fact that it removes the stock precats. i put a y pipe on my old 4th gen i had (which has the precats on the downpipe, not the headers like the 3.5) and the noise was unbearable with a cat-back, you can't pimp a car that sounds like that.

hey juice do you have any serious noise issues with your headers? are they stillen?

That's weird that your CEL came on. I did'nt disconnect the battery when I installed mine and I haven't had any problems. Do you think you might have an exhaust leak that could have set it off? I know the three bolts on the rear manifold had to be REALLY tight for the pipe to seal properly. Hope you get it figured out.....

Glad to hear you're pleased with it!

As pleased as we are with the demand for these, it came more suddenly than anticipated so we've gotten caught a bit short on subcomponents. We sold everything delivered the first week, and again last week, and will have a few more on Tuesday, but the next big batch will have to wait a few days while a big box of our purpose-built, bullit-proof flex sections are being fabricated.

Word to the wise, if you want one before mid-November, get an order in queue ASAP Monday a.m. for the few that come in early this week. 800.759.9920.

Well no, the sale's been over for days and I've turned others away. And, my micro-econ prof would be rolling over in her grave if I responded to a demand > supply situation with reduced prices.

But, the 02/03 will be returning to its promotional price of $325 instead of $355; so its only going up $26.

I don't routinely overlook my email, as most would testify. No need to provide proof, I have your message and my reply right here. I've resent that for your reveiw, but in my reply I said that yes, you had contacted me in time and that if you called to order the next day you could get the price. I also provided you with some extensive quotes on shipping various parts to Hawaii.

Not sure which year of car you have, but although the y-pipes are no longer on sale, we have our Cattman Cattback Exhausts still reduced through tomorrow (Monday) and there is a new sale on Brembo Gran Turismo front brake kits (marked down $400 from $2595 to 2195).

The intro price on the 02/03 y-pipes will be good for a month or so. Hope to get the new site up sometime this month after coming back from SEMA.

I'd love to get that performance gain but, really how loud of a difference is it? I'll be swapping B-pipe and leaving stock muffler? Don't want anything obnoxious.

I like it alot. POLO posted some pics of the stock y-pipe and the cattman design is so much better. car revs up nice now, and i think it a good mod to do! Looking at the b-pipe, that also seems to be pretty restrictive as well. i have no desire at all to put a muffler on the car, i dont want any noise coming from my car except for my intake! So, hopefully someone will put on the y and b pipes with the stock rear section and comment on sound!

thats my deciding buyingf actor also - i have a budget b/franken/stock muffler-
And would jump on the y if the noise level isn't any louder than it is already-

I'm also waiting to see if someone has that set up before buying my y pipe-
my buying factor is if noise isn't greatly increased w/this combo

Someone dyno now... lets see what it puts down on some of your cars. I'm interested, but cant afford to throw money out unless I can see some more proof. Sounds like a good design so far though, seeing as everyone has liked the butt dyno results

Don't know about the Budget B, but the key is to have a B-pipe with a good-sized resonator.

Not sure if you missed the thread or were waiting for more tests, but there is well-documented dyno information for this part already. The new Y-pipe is tested, compared with stock, and then a B-pipe is added in a third test.

You can find the dyno results here: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....1&goto=newpost.

Anybody have any experience with a Warpspeed Y-pipe. I'm ging to get one but want to make sure that I have the best. The Warpspeed is a little cheaper but cheaper isn't always better. Wny help would be appreciated.

I dont have Cattman y pipe, but speaking from experience with the warpspeed y pipe. It sucks! It didn't fit right, it hung too low, I had to lower my subframe connector 1/2inch and it would still bang against it whenever I romped on pedal. As for dyno results I lost midrange and didnt gain anything on top. I ended up taking it off and selling it. will try the stillen headers next. Any body got some real dyno figures on this mod?

I wasn't asking about power or sound! I wanted to hear about other experiences with another product.

My pipe should be delivered today and will post results hopefully tonight or tomorrow.

To those who have done the swap: what size wrench are the O2 sensors? Usually they are rather large and I wanna make sure I got one ahead of time.

Thanks!

I hit the O2 with a little WD-40 the night before and used a cresent wrench on it. It took minimal effort to remove.

Good luck..This mod is so worth it.
