Question for those who went from 4TH Gen to 2k or 2k1
Im looking to see how happy people are that went from a 4th gen maxima to a 5th gen, either 2k or 2k1.
I am looking to buy either a 2k or a 2k1 used maxima and I wanted to see what people think who have done the upgrade.
Thanks,
Mike

I went from an empty '97 GXE with 150K miles on the odometer to a loaded 2k1 GLE with 60K. And while I was ecstatic about the upgrade, I really wish it was a 2k2, due to a lot of reasons, the most important of which is obviously the engine. I think for the price difference between a 2k1 and 2k2, the extra half-liter is without a doubt worth it and I wish I had gone that route instead. Another thing to consider (if you want good lighting) is the eventual cost of the HID conversion on the 2k1.

I totally agree with you guys about going for a 3.5, however I found a nice black on black 2k that I am looking at. Also I will most likely be going with some type of forced induction so the power of the engine stock doesnt really make much of a difference.
Any more advice is greatly appreciated.

Well if you're really wanting the FI, then go for it. For me~ the price is out of my reach, and also unsure about realibility. Just be ready for ALL the expenses....down the line and up front.

Hey Guys, I went from a 98 SE to a 2K1 AE SE, even if I liked the 98 a lot, I now prefer my 2K1, as for the 2k2 it was not available in november 2000 when I got my 2K1, so how can I have regrets for something that was not available...
I prefer to keep my 2k1 and get FI, Imagine da face of a 2k2 or 2k3 driver when he wanna race thinking he can ridiculize you in your 2k1 sleeper, can you say surprrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiissssseee.
Good luck.

I went from a 4th Gen to a 2001SE -with another car between them, but that's another story...
The most noticeable thing about the Gen5 versus the Gen4 was the substantially increased chassis rigidity & improved ergonomics. Power-wise it's a toss-up as the greater power (222/227 versus 190 hp) is somewhat offset by the increased weight put into the chassis
Because of the better chassis, the Gen5's respond better to suspension mods such as stiffer lowering springs and all that -because the platform (chassis) allows the suspension to do its work versus the chassis flexing.
If you are considering a Gen5 now, I agree with all above, get an 02/03 with the 3.5 liter engine
