Definite go on the anti-theft TSB
Definite go on the anti-theft TSB
02-03 Maxima owners that live in the Northeast (PA, NJ, CT, NY) will be getting a letter in the mail notifying you to make an appointment with your local dealer to have this anti-theft mod put on your car free of charge. It consists of metal brackets where the plastic mounts are and what they call "Data Dots." It is a compound that contains a serial number that can only be seen with a magnifying glass. When you put it on the surface, the whole surface will be covered in hundreds of these dots which contain the serial number. They will coat the bulbs, ballast and housing as well as the VIN number area of the doors. The numbers will go into a national data base which can be accessed by law enforcement. The whole process will take about an hour and a half. The warning stickers will go on the side of the lights as well as on the front windows. This definitely will not stop theft of the lights, but if people are caught with the stolen property, at least there will be some hope of successful prosecution. The only way Nissan would be able to fully save face would be to reimburse me and the thousands of other people who had to replace their stolen lights.

I work at a Nissan dealership and found about this from my service manager. Not sure if it has been made public yet. I do have a copy of the letter that will be sent out plus a step by step how-to for the tech's doing the mod. As far as this being available only to certain states, I know that they will only be sending the letter out to the northeast region (NJ, PA, NY, CT, MA). However, it will probably be available for any 02-03 owner in the country. I will post a copy of the letter ASAP.

I just had my lights stolen last week. in the shop now $2400 in damages.
