RE 92's

My steering wheel sits a bit off center - dialed off to the left. I had it up on a rack and the alignment was perfect. The dude doing the alignment told me that he use to work for the this tire dealer and he mentioned to me that it is the tires giving me the problem. Stated that the car pulls to the left slightly because of 1 or 2 bad tires.

Anyone else have the same problem and if so, have you sought restitution from your Nissan dealer or the tire dealer?

Yep, I had an RE92 "tire equivalent" with radial pull. Try swapping the tires from side-to-side - if the pull changes to the other side, it's radial pull. Depending on how many miles you have on them, Bridgestone may replace it under warranty. They told me "an authorized Bridgestone dealer has to check and agree that it's a radial pull". Good luck.

[Maximax2] - Did you happen to get yours swapped by the dealer and how many miles did you have on your tires at the time? Mine has been like this since I drove off the lot only I didn't notice it for a few days because I was too frickin' excited about being a proud owner of an '03 Max.

Do you still roll the same tires or are you on new rubber?

Here's a better idea...get a different tire....the Potenza is a piece of crap if there's so much as a lugi hocked on the road in front of your car you will be hydroplaning. Just ditched mine with alot of tread remaining with winter coming up...got some Falken Ziex 512s (a little hard to get, though)...they are about $100 cheaper than the Micnhelin Pilot Sport AS, much better in rain and (I assume) snow, and handle pretty damn good dry, and are quieter than RE92's...Nissan just puts them on the car OEM because theyhave a "deal" with Bridgestone....yet other example of why OEM is not alway best.....damn sorry for the rant...I am very anti-RE92!

Those tires are affectionately known here as the RE92 Blowtenzas.

Thanks. I thought about the Michelin Pilot Sports but I am not sure I want to ditch $1,000 just yet. The tire rack has these at a cool $195 each. Did you try dealing at all w/ Bridgestone or Nissan?

For the love of God's sakes, DON'T put out the insane amount of cash for the RE92s... if you wanna blow some money get the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S (and get it in OEM size, I got mine in 235/45ZR17 for ****s & giggles and it has a little extra right-side torque steer...)
You can get far better tires than the RE92 Blowtenzas for cheaper...

Sorry, I did reply to this but apparently the server bailed it. So:

Yes, I had the problem from day 1
It was much more noticeable after the tires were rotated (bad tire then on front)

I had the same problem that I thought it was my wheel alignment. The culprit is the stupid tires.

Like I said above...get the Falken 512's...almost as good as teh Pilot Sport AS, but you can get 4 falkens (installed) for under $600. BTW, just drove mine in torrential rain for the first time today....it's like you're driving on dry roads practically...no more 50mph in the right lane during thunderstroms...

Go with the Michelin's. They handle much better when it is wet out and they are like glue on dry pavement. I think it was worth the money.

Well being a GM for Bridgestone I will say the RE92 isin't the best tire out there but to say the "Falkin" is better??? i think you might need to also look into nissan issues with "wander" you can have a alignment that is in spec with camber, caster and toe with the great "Mich" tires on it will still pull. just make sure you find the true problem before you blow any money on tires at all.

turbozx,

As a GM for this tire company, your honesty about your product is greatly appreciated. What do you suggest? I have sought to find the issue at hand. I have been told the alignment was perfect. I have rotated/balanced the tires and that did not do anything for me. The last alignment was done by Nissan body shop that fixed some minor body damage on my MAX but I have to assume that with them telling me it is the tires themselves, what alternatives do I have?

Your feedback is greatly appreciated and again, thanks for acknowledging with no uncertainty that the RE 92 is not the best tire. Just seeking to correct the problem so I am not stuck with an even bigger one sooner or later.

Regards,

velase03

velase03, I will get you the info that you are looking for as far as the alignment issue and how to correct the pull. Tires are a different issue, did you want to stay with the stock size or change? let me know on that one and I will give you some suggestions on tires. It will be monday before i can get you the info.

turbozx,

Thanks. I have thought about going to 18's but I am very happy with the 17's on the car already. If I had an opportunity to get a replacement tire for the 17's now, I would do it in a heartbeat. If I know that there is no choice and I can't do this right away, I would probably go to the 18's w/ a tire other than the RE92 without a doubt.

Let me know and I have to thank you for considering my situation and offering guidance. I can also be reached at lvela7@houston.rr.com.

Have a good weekend.

velase, have you tried what I recommended about swapping the tires? That'll quickly tell you whether or not you have radial pull. And what turbozx told you about Bridgestones is undoubtedly true, but I personally have never had radial pull in four sets of michelins, two sets of yokos, or the new set of Kumhos - only the RE92s (which, BTW, may be the worst tires ever designed).

Maximax2, I have yet to switch the tires from side to side yet but I know that I am getting rid of the shi***y a*s tires that are on this car. I have owned Michelin tires and have always been impressed. What about the Khumos? Are those any good?

Look, I have been happy with other Bridgestones, but the RE92 is not only "not the best tire out there"...it downright sucks. Have you seen a SINGLE post on any forum here that thinks the RE92 is good for all-weather...yeah sometimes there's this stuff called rain that I like to drive my car in too..RE92 is great dry...too bad there is rain and snow...And yes, I will say EASILY the Falken 512's are FAR SUPERIOR to the RE92 in all-weather..no not quite as good dry, but much much better wet, and that more than makes up for it. Perhaps you should do 3 things, mister big-shot "GM":
1. Put the RE92's on your car (try some that have a little wear, not brand new...no one's tires are always brand new) and go drive various speeds in a heavy rainstorm...hit soem big puddles too..tell me how many times you hydroplane if you can count that high..
2. TRY the Falkens...I doubt you have, so you really can't talk about them with any actual knowledge...
3. You acknowledge that the RE92 is "not the best"...so why don't you use your pull to make them better instead of selling a sub-par product? There are alot of sheep out there who will buy a sub-par tire just because it's OEM ad they don't know any better...Does that keep you up at nights? It should

Oh, and enough about camber, toe, etc...the car drives great with the Falkens, and it drove like **** with the RE92's ...I haven't made any suspension adjustments since changing tires, so I think that can be ruled out.

I hate to ***** like this, because there are alot of great products coming out of Bridgestone...but it ****es me off to hear someone who KNOWS BETTER try to pimp for the craptenza 92s when you know, and admitted, they are sub-par. end.

Although I like my Falkens, I have had Kumhos on my old integra a few years ago and they were decent as well....are any Kumhos made in the stock size for the Max?

The quicker you get rid of the RE92 Blowtenzas, the better you are. Matter of speaking, got to get rid of them on my wife's car soon.

velase (and irish) - obviously I can't compare them to Michelins because I haven't tried the Mickeys on this car. But I can tell you the Kumhos:

Handle nicely on dry pavement, both in turns and off the line
Are great in the rain - in the same heavy rainstorms that I could drive 45mph with the RE92s, I can cruise normally at 70 without a hint of hydroplaning.

And (irish) they come in the stock Maxima (SE) size - presumably stock GLE size too.
