Limited use

I was wondering if some of you use your Max for short distances. I travel about 2kms to work every morning and back, with longer rides on the weekend. I've been told this could hurt the engine. Any thoughts?

Regards,
Chris

It could cause the engine to not last as long (in terms of miles) but it'll take you a really long time to get those miles.

If I lived 2km from work, I'd ride my mountain bike, but to each his own.

Chris,
2km each way doesn't let the engine oil and exhaust system warm fully. Depending on your climate, you are more likely to develop condensation in your oil. You may see an increase in sludge in the valve covers. Because of those very short trips, your exhaust system is likely to maintain moisture all week long which will speed corrosion. Many say the use of synthetic oil helps maintain clean internals, so you might help matters some that way, but nothing short of a full warm up will help your exhause system. I would find a way to extend my trips, at least the trip home. Make it last at least 10-15 minutes so the car warms fully.

just my 2 cents........

I drive about 4 mi to school. I just try to warm up as possible and drive very aggresively( try to hit the upper range 4-5k rpm) to burn up the water in muffler and acid in engline.(also, to spit or blow the out water from mufflers). try to change the oil 3k mi or 3 month and use mobil 1 synthetic. my oil actually smell like unburn gas or acid . if my mufflers to corrode, I will just get performance one
