Spec-V vs Maxima ( NOT a race thread! )

Hey! We are thinking to buy another car in the family. I was thinking about nissan spec-v, how much slower are they then our stock 2k2,2k3. And how much fun are they, are they more of a drivers car then our maxima? Am I gonna need a lot of mods to make it as fast as our max's ? Do they last?

dont sleep on the spec v's. those are nice rides. when modded they can be a serious threat to a lot of cars, and of course they have a turbo out now too...

Intake, exhaust, headers, balance shaft removal, drag radials...

That should do it for sure.

Cool, are they more fun to drive then our maxima's?

Well, I rate them the same, although the SER-V handles better, stock vs. stock. I like the car...

Do you know of a site that has turbo info? I remember reading something about an Area 51 prototype, but I'm not sure if that flew. Thanks.

the spec-v's do look hott too, i gotta agree but there's no comparison between the two cars, they're in different classes. it would be a good addition to having a max. now imagine if you put a lot of performance parts into the 3.5 max, would be ugly. but you can't lose with getting the sentra i say go for it...

I would love to own one and they do look smart. Probably a lot of fun to drive with that 175 horses. Still, I won't pretend that it's going to take out a maxima on the highway, although it would give it a decent run at the lights I suppose, but the things have ~80 less horsepower. Different class though, as mentioned above.

I was considering one last year and came to this conclusion: $17-18k for a new spec v, or $15k for a 2000 maxima SE with a bunch of options.

I think it's obvious which one I took I'd almost definiely never buy a new Nissan. They depreciate in value far too quickly.

there's a guy in my town -- he's a senior in HS, no job, his parents bought him a fully loaded 2004 spec-v. Before he could get permanent plates, he put in a CAI, exhaust and about $10k in sounds. He then put in NOS and BLEW UP HIS ENGINE!!!!!

To my surprise, Nissan warrantied the engine, and just put on 1000 miles on it. He put the NOS back in (100 shot) but is not using it yet. He should be getting in his turbo any day now and after installing, will use the turbo AND NOS!!!

WTF???!!!! When I was in HS i drove a 83 doo-doo brown celica with chrome hubcaps. Damn these spoiled kids nowdays!

Yeah, if it weren't for my coworker suggesting I look into Maximas, I'd have an SE-R Spec V right now
I like 'em... a friend of mine just got one, and he enjoys squealing the tires at each shift... very torquey little engines
http://www.b15sentra.net/ is one place I got a lot of info on them... including the 2k2 oil control problems some people had... plus removing that balance shaft increases the oil capacity significantly (gotta put like 5-6qts oil after an oil change I think...)
But every time I compare my Maxima to a Spec V, I come out grinning with the Max... no balance shaft, silky smooth all the way to the redline, big purdy car, leather interior, lots of room, and a kickass org

I just bought a specV to go along with the max about two weeks ago. I would say definitely look for 03 or 04. Many of the problems with the spec were fixed for 03. Oil burning, transmission clunking, etc etc. Make sure any 03 you look has had all recalls on it.

Other than that, it's a hell of a fun little car. You thought torque steer was bad in a max. . . . This little bugger will go all over the place if you're not paying attention. LIke someone said before check out www.b15sentra.net, it's not quite as good as the org, but it's better than most.
