Is anyone else as bad as I am?

I have not been visiting the board for a while...but still have love for the maxima, although not as much as many here I am sure.

My 2k maxima has 74,000 miles and my only complaint is the paint coming off the bumper where the deck lid rubs. This car has served me well, so well that I haven't felt obligated to do anything other than changing the oil.

So....is there anyone else that has this same condition? I have thought about changing the spark plugs a time or two, but since the car runs so well it will remain on my to do list.

So...what else should I put on my to do list? I have a 5 speed so I don't have to worry about tranny issues...but should I replace the gearbox oil?

Gearbox oil? Can't hurt. Make sure it's API service GL-4 gear oil you're using, of course. If you like the way it shifts now, go with OEM gear oil and stick with it. Redline MT-90 later on when the synchros wear down, and if you want synthetic without Redline's shift quality, check Amsoil. I'm not sure how Amsoil compares with Redline though, as I haven't tried Amsoil (tried Redline though... nice quick high-speed/high-RPM shifts)

If you want you max to go another 74,000 miles, for sure change the plugs and tranny oil soon.

How is the motor going to blow? lol

I am not sure if I should consider myself lucky or what. This is the longest I have ever kept a car . Most of my other cars were either junkers or I was able to trade them in or wreck them before any major servicing was needed.

Well...I better get those plugs switched out before she blows up. I bet that coolant is growing mold in the block too.....eating away the aluminum as I type.

Although I love my two other Domestic classics....it is nice to have a car I don't have to work on.

Thanks for the ideas...I will add those to my to do list.

Geez, talk about neglect on maintence on the car. Espeically with the paint. Do you ever wash your car and at least wax it once a year? I have no problem with the paint, at least I wash my car religiously and wax it about four time a year to keep that new car paint luster.

Hmmm... never changing the coolant is bad too... should have done that at 60K mi (definitely change out the coolant!) but be careful when you do this... remove the radiator and backflush it (and be careful with it; the plastic filler neck can scratch easily if you sit it on a hard surface)... don't want to unleash a sudden cooling system failure due to sediment/deposits in the radiator or block.
Also changing the fuel filter (if you really wanna touch the fuel pump/etc.) is a good idea...

Change the plugs now, just to save any problems pulling them later (they're only supposedly good for 105k anyway, and many recommend changing at 60k).

Also, do put in some new tranny oil (in regards to OEM stuff, my local dealer was trying to sell prestone GL5 - and you DON'T want to put GL5 in these transmissions, as the sulfur in it can wear down synchros). I put in redline MT90 recently myself (2000 with 59k miles).

You're also 15k overdo for a coolant swap. Change it all out. I did it myself following the easier of the two guidelines at www.motorvate.ca.

I presume you've done the air filter at some point?

You could also check to make sure the PCV valve is still good, or just buy a new one (they're about $12) for the heck of it.

Wow...it looks like my list is getting longer.

I am kind of a strange person I suppose. You know how the national media comes up with new reasons we are going to give ourselves cancer every week. It seems like every time I watch the news they have a new prognosis of how people are killing themselves by eating this or drinking that. It kind of reminds me of this board at times. lol I am just an idiot when it comes to foreign cars.

I never realized there was a PVC valve...where is that at?

What plugs should I go with, and what should I gap the plugs?

Where is the fuel filter? Is this pretty easy to replace?

Is there any way to adjust the clutch?

Thanks for the help!
