03 auto. Sometimes it is difficult to shift from park to drive. Feels like the shifter is grinding against something. When car is in drive and you tap on and off the brake you can sometimes hear something tapping or clicking against the shifter when pushing the brake pedal in. Anyone else have this?

It is not from parking on hills either.

 

i have noticed on mine, even the slightest amount of incline will cause that problem for me. its like i have to force it back to get it into drive or reverse. i have gotten in the habit of just using the e-brake now.

 

that happens to me as well and I always use the ebrake right before I let go of the brake pedal. I don't know what causes that...

 

Just use your ebrake.

 

I always engage my ebrake before I let my foot off of the brake pedal; even on flat surfaces. I still get this problem on and off??!!?!?!!?

 

That's the park/brake interlock, and it's supposed to be like that! You must depress the brakes in order to shift out of park! If you're forcing it into drive without touching the brakes, you're going to cause an unsafe condition (eventually) where your car can be shifted out of park and into neutral or drive (or any gear other than park) without the keys!!

 

I think the problem even shows up with brake padel pressed in. While shifting from park into reverse, there is a bit of hesitation and you need to really fight with it sometimes before it lets in.

 

happens to me on all inclines, i always use my e-brake, and always depress the brake pedal when shifting out of park. it still catches every time.

 

I've never had any problem with mine, whether on hills, mountains, level roads...

 

Me either....always use my ebrake before i let go of gas too....never had any problems....

 

Mine sticks... Could be due to the shift ****...

 

the sticking is normal if your car is on a grade and you dont use the e brake. Its the locking mechenisam getting stuck because of the force of the car against it when you release the break pedldle. if you use the e brake b4 you put the car in park the problem will be gone. As far as the noise you hear when you press on the break peddle that is the shift relese solonid disengaging so you can shift the car out of park. Older cars did not have a brake interlock but all new cars require you to have your foot on the break before shifting out of park on auto trans.

Mine does too, and I ALWAYS use the e-brake. Maybe even with the e-brake on, the suspension / wheels shift just enough to put pressure on the tranny?

 

ya i have that problems too...i'm just afraid that someday I will break that damn automatic "STICK"

 

me too. I plan to check this problem at Nisson dealer. I was told to step the foot brake hard to floor before you shift from drive to parking or vice versa. Sometime it works, but often it doesn't. Maybe it is due to the foot brake.

 

You should do this before shift to P:

engage ebrake >> shift to neutral >> shift to Park

or

shift to neutral >> engage ebrake >> shift to Park

ps. Please release brake after shift to neutral...

When ready to go, shift before release your ebrake.
