Handling TSB's with Extended Warranty
Handling TSB's with Extended Warranty
Hello All,
I just purchased a 2000 SE with 62k miles and a 100,000 autonation platinum warranty.
The previous owners were stupid a$$ho$$s and did not get ANY
of the TSB's taken care of for the car.
I got a damn good price on the car so am not complaining about them being idiots too much.
Anyway, the 3 major TSB's that I will have done are the Transmission
Solenoid and TCM replacement (NTB00-039A) Brake Shudder (NTB00-088) and Wind Noise (NTB01-029)
My questions are should I attempt to get these TSB's done for no charge
even though the vehicle is out of its basic warranty?
Or should I just go in and have at least the Transmisson and Brake TSB
done under the Extended Warranty and pay the deductible on the warranty (will be 200 bucks)
Give me your advice dudes.....

there are at least 3 threads on "extended warranty" and TSBs in the past week alone... basically they'll only do the TSBs that apply to things that are covered under the extended warranty.
is your question "should I ask for them to do them free or just offer to pay?" ?? Remember, you'll never get anything for free without asking. Their job is to take your money, so if you don't ASK for the wind TSB done for free they won't do it for free.

2K2 Thanks for the feedback....I know there are other threads but my question was different than that posted in the other threads.
If you look at the first line of my post I mention that I have a AutoNation Platinum Extended warranty...not a Nissan extended warranty.
So different rules will apply here.
My question is exactly that...should I ask them to do it for free or should I offer to pay.
Give me your advice dudes....fire away with what you think..ask for free or offer to pay?

demand it for free and if they b!tch then grudgingly say you'll pay... a percentage
While I fail to see what makes the previous owners of the car "stupid a$$ho$$s" I say get the $200 ready to pay the deductible. Chances are about 2k miles ago, well actually 2.5k you would have gotten away with getting the transmission tsb taken care of as part of powertrain warranty (Also don't count on the new TCM right away, first they will replace the solenoids, and only if it doesn't take care of the problem they will get you a new TCM.) As far as brakes go, I doubt they would have taken care of it had it been on factory warranty, they would have probably blamed it on standard wear, told you that you need new rotors and charged $100 more then any local Midas. Couldn't tell you about the wind noise issue, never dealt with that one. Like Mikes2k2Se mentioned, TSB is not a recall, its a more of an acknowledgement of a common issue. They don't have to take care of it free or charge once the car is out of warranty. If some dealerships do, its an exception rather then a rule.
