Trouble code and warrenty question

I have a question about trouble code P0740 Converter Clutch System Problem. It is on a 2K Maxima with just under 60,000 miles. My first question is what could this be. I know that these codes are very general so I would like to know what different things this could be affecting. I was initially thinking that it could the the Torque Converter since it is a auto, but then again I know absoultely nothing about Maxima's tranny's. I am not sure if the tranny fluid has been changed so that is going to be taken care of tomorrow. Now my next question is, I have heard that the warrenty is 60,000 miles but how does that work and what does it cover. I am not the 1st owner of the car, I think I am the second. I did not buy the car from a Nissan dealer, not sure if that is going to affect it at all. Does anyone know if the warrenty is still good? Thanks a ton for your help, I would like to get this taken care of since it has 59,940 miles.

The ownership history shouldn't affect it in the eyes of the dealer. Hopefully they wont press you for maintenance records though. You do have 60000k powertrain warranty, so just make sure the dealership you're heading to is less then 60 miles away.

It's only 5 at most. I will be safe in that sense. Do you think that they would cover something like that?

I would like to think they would, just be sure to have the owner's manual with you, just in case you need to refer them to the powertrain warranty section. Honestly, I've been pretty lucky with my service department, but had I decided to take my car somewhere else, I'd go in and be ready for an argument. If your car is stock though, I dont see any reason for them to give you a hard time though.

At this point in time it is 100% stock. Should the service department have the vin number on record to find out if I will still qualify?

They should be able to look up the VIN form your car unless the car came from Canada or Hawaii, in which case you would need to call Nissan Canada or Nissan Hawaii and get them to transfer the vehicle info to NNA (happened to me with both my maximas)
