CF Hood Frustrations
CF Hood Frustrations
I have some big nasty scratches and chips in my hood so Iv'e been debating getting a CF hood. CustomMaxima.com used to have them but doesn't seem to anymore (unless I'm losing my mind and just can't find them on their site). Anybody know where I can go t pick one up (FYI, probably not intersted in buying just yet, just lookin)

I guess since the overlay is real CF, that would also mean the overlay is bulletproff, and then it doesn't matter if it's fiberglass underneath.

I've got tons of carbon fiber on motorcycles and lay it up in my garage form time to time. Here's some info.
Unpainted clearcoated CF may fade or go milky when exposed to UV rays for extended periods of time. Especially if the CF is clearcoated without a solid UV ray inhibitor. Sometimes you can bring back the shine if you clean it with denatured alcohol and then respray it with clear.
Raw, unclearcoated CF, is used basically for race bodywork or support pieces in unexposed areas where appearance is not important.
Clearcoated CF will chip! It's got clearcoat/paint on it.
Unpainted CF will become brittle over time if exposed to UV rays. Basically it's the epoxy that become brittle and that effects the overall intgerity of the whole piece.
CF will crack if exposed to enough stress. For example: your moron buddy decides to jump/lay on your hood.
You should wax clearcoated CF just like the rest of your car.
You can drill or shpe CF with a high speed tool likea dremel or air diegrinder but, DO NOT inhale the dust! Use a mask!
