What is it?

what is the small vent under the guage cluster (under the temp guage), just behind the key when it's in the ignition? It is black, has 4 slots and is about 1" x 1". I just noticed it today and have no idea what it does.

I am pretty sure it is the airtemp sensor for auto climate control.

It's for the automatic Climate control sensor temp. I have that little thing on my dashboard but no auto climate control.
