Auto Tranny removed, 5spd conv. begins....

Well most of you know this was happening. I just dropped the tranny all myself, thats right MYSELF. Its amazing how it really aint that hard. Can be done as long as you got the right tools.

Thanks to JAY25 for his Tranny jack. That thing is amazing! Without it there is no way to do it alone or get it done right.

Its also amazing how the auto is almost 2x as big as the 5spd. I sat them next to each other and damnnnnnn. Im gonna gain alot of clearance for my piping now.

I got some pics for yall to see.

Yea its hosted on port 81, hopefully yall can all get to it.

Now I got one problem since I was getting ready to install the 5spd, the Fidanza doesnt fit, the shaft off the crankshaft is a TAD bigger and it doesnt clear the Fidanza flywheel. Might have to get it bored larger. I swear I thought this flywheel would work, but then again the 2k1 kills me cause there is always something different on it from 2k.

And yes I just dropped the tranny and its 5:30am here in ATL.

Im really tired right now, i was up till about 1am working on a customer site which is having some support issues. After that I took a break, walked into the garage, and never came back to what i was working on till I got the bastard off.

I bet this car aint moving now for another 2weeks, I can just sense and see the issues Im going to run into to. It always happens.

Can we expect a 5th gen style write up from you since you did a great job with the 2k2 headlight write up. I would love to do this myself with the help of my roomates instead of paying some some to do it.

MyownNismo, I would love to do one, but its gonna be hard cause there are a few bolts and things that I cant take pictures of that will make it impossible for you to understand on a writeup, Im all about pictures. If I dont see it, Its hard for me to understand. I will try though. I may have to go back and take some shots for the writeup.

Also hard to do when your hands are greesy as hell and Im doing this on my own, and then gotta take pictures with my nice digicam which I know will get dirty as well.

Kloogy, btw, my last name means carpenter/fixer-upper. So yes Bob Villa fits.

Nauman, its really not hard at all now that I think back, the shafts take no more than 30mins tops. Then just get the auto out. I ran into a few snags cause I didnt remove the turbo, its still right there. Just worked around it.

Let me break it down for yall.
Tranny - $350 (4th gen Non-LSD)
Custom LSD - $600
Clutch - $350
Flywheel - $340
Shift Rods - $70
Clutch Pedal - $65
New DriveShafts - $150
Rest of the crap needed like tranny mount, shift console, master cylinder, slave cylinder, lines, all that good stuff is coming from DaveB brand new for about $600
TOTAL comes to $2525

Consider Im saving about $1000 in labor since that is what Jeff at MaximumTuning charges if you have ABS on your car.

Im also already buying a 2nd tranny to custom rebuild to hold well over 600whp by doing some new/interesting stuff to the internals. I will also do the rebuild of this spare tranny on my own.

This also means my auto tranny is for sale and the stageII VB that was done by MaximumTuning. The tranny has 25k on it and never had any problems, boosted no more than 5spi, i decided to get it out before I destroyed it.

Hey Dixit, would you consider selling just the VB.Since I wont do the tranny swap befor my custom Boost toy is ready, maybe little more punch would be satisfactory for the moment.

Your da man Big Dog.

Cheers
