HID Conversion kit in NJ

I'm planning on doing the HID conversion kit for my 2kMax but have been worried about being pulled over by the cops who won't like them because they are not DOT street legal. Anyone have any problems in NJ? Any way to get around inspection? Thanks in advance.

If you know they are not DOT approved, why take a chance?

Will the kits fit? Yes. Should you install a kit? No. Why? There are several reasons why you should not. One is the fact that you will lose the use of your high beams. 9004 and H-4 bulbs are dual filaments, it contains both high beam and low beam filaments where as the HID bulb is a single filament bulb. You DO need high beams. Why? Sure HIDs are going to be bright, but high beams are aimed differently and there will be time when you need to use your high beams to see further. Also high beams are often used as a way to communicate with other drivers. You will lose the ability to do this. The second, and probably the most important, reason you should not do a conversion is the fact that your beam pattern will be destroyed (This applies mostly to the 3rd and 4th gens. 5th gens will have this to a lesser degree because the H-4 bulb filament is vertical). 9004 bulb filaments are horizontal relative to the bulb socket. HID bulbs are vertical. Your reflectors are designed with the horizontal filament in mind. The light output will glare a lot and will blind on coming drivers.

I live in Nj.....and I have 6000k in mine. I've never once gotten pulled over for having the lights in. I've been on the road at 2 or 3 in the morning and in my stupid town the cops ride around in groups of 2. They just go by me and not even look back. I know a bunch of people in nj who have them also and they never have problems

as for the inspection...clearly you won't pass, but it really only takes 5 minutes to swap out the hid's to put in your old headlights. You don't have to take out the ignitor or ballast..just take the bulb out and swap in the old one and reconnect.. if you like the hid look go for it its expensive but if it makes you happy definatly do it.

If it makes him happy, imagine how happy the HID jackers will be.
