Wow, I was in the mountains coming downhill. Gear in drive
trying to shift into a lower gear I believe d2, I shifted forward into REVERSE going about 40!!!!!! Luckily, the car cut off, I lost power and drifted into the left lane of a 2 lane road.

Did not realize what I did until I looked down and saw gear in reverse. This is a great safety feature!!!! Thanks Nissan

So,,,, now you know what will happen if you slam into reverse going forward. I don't advise you ever try this though...hehe

Yeah, I have heard about that safety feature. But I think if you are going under like 12 mph, and then shift into reverse, it will do it.....Then its bye bye tranny

Wow, good thing that safety feature kicked in. I can't imagine what would happen if the feature wasn't there!

When I was testing the install of the AE auto shifter on my car, and I was in the parking lot at low speed, I inadvertenly moved the gear selector into reverse.

I didn't have my seatbelt on nor did I know I had done it. I almost ate the steering wheel. The result may have been .

It didn't sound or feel pretty, but it seems ok.

the dash lights went out on an '87 ford taurus and not being able to see so well, i stuck the gear into reverse... the wheels locked up and the car started to skid straight ahead.. when i realized what i did, i changed it back to drive and the car kept going! i'm sure that had something to do with it, but a few years later when i got rid of the car, the tranny was slipping like it was on ice.

one way to avoid all this...

one way to avoid all this is when you're in "2" or even "1", you don't have to push the button to return to "D". this is a feature in most cars nowadays. just push the shifter up w/o the button and it will go back just fine. yeah, that featuer is just to prevent accidents like that.

interesting thing, tho. when i had my old '88-528e (bmw), when i accidentally shifted to reverse, the engine automatically went to Neutral. i think i like that one better w/o having to restart it. Heck, i was on the freeway. i think most people would have freaked out if their engine went dead on the freeway.

okay, time fer bed.
