2k2 Spark Plug Change

For those of you that have changed the spark plugs on the 2k2's did you install a new intake manifold gaskets? I am thinking I will just to be safe, but I was just wondering what everyone else did.

The manifold gasket is made out of metal. No need to replace the gasket. I didn't.

Just curious but why would you change your plugs. They are made to last at least 80k

I've been having detonation problems and wanted to do it anyways. The longer you have your plugs installed (over 80K) the harder they are to remove (so I've been told)

Here are my old ones

KiLLer2002se actually helped me out since he had the tools. After I tilted up the manifold I saw my valves which looked pretty clean. Unfortunately I didn't have my digital camera with me

I thought there was a sticky on replacing these....

I bought them from a distributor down the street from my house. The prices are pretty good there. Here is his link.

It was a pain for me the first time i did it because I seperated the manifold from the throttle body, there are some PITA connecting those things together. Leave those bolted together and just take the manifold off. There are also two bolts behind the manifold connecting to the throttle body for extra support, those need to be taken out. Its pretty simple once youve done it 10 times

maximadave: So did you go to a colder plug? I've noticed some mild detonation even w/ 92oct. with our '00 maxima.

That could be caused by your coils. There is a TSB on it and your Nissan dealer should replace them. I went with NGK Platniums, basically the Nissan OEM replacement.

NGK says they are "pregapped" at 44 but measuring them, they were only at 40. I had to regap them. No biggie
