Manual Shift ****

Is it possible for someone with mostly no knowledge in mechanics or experience in stuff like this to be able to install a different shift **** on a 2k Max w/o professional assistance?

And if I do need assistance, would a dealer mechanic be able to do it, and for what kind of labor cost?

heh if u can change a light bulb u u can change the shif ****

it just unscrews, and then u screw on the new one. if the **** was never removed before it might be kinda hard to unscrew, but if u put some force on it, it will move

i have a 2k 5spd gxe, and the shift **** would not even budge. I put sooo much torque trying to unscrew it but never was able to.

yea those b@astards are hard to take off, what i did is i used my keychain thingy, its made out of tough cloth, o i wrapped it around the **** and turned like there was no tommorow, but to my stupidity i was actually tightening it........and i was actually able to move it for 1/2 turn more after that i realized that i was tightening it. i was surprised how strong i was

er or u can try and do what my friend did, and use a saw to cut a side of that shift **** off and then it just kinda falls off.....

They tend to be tight. A strap wrench works well to remove. Also, you might want to slide the boot down and grab the shaft with some vice grips to counter the torque applide with the strap wrench.

the nismo has a seperate jacket to tighten into the shifter, and the the **** uses an allen nut to tighten it down. Its snug as a bug. My OEM was notoriously loose.
