Install Bose Head Unit in Non-Bose 03 Maxima

Would anyone be able to tell me if it is possible to install a Bose Head Unit into an 03 Maxima that does not have a Bose system? I'd like to have the 6 disk in dash changer functionality. Thanks

Yes it is possible.

Trust me, you don't want it. The head unit is made by Clarion and the CD changer skips frequently. The highs sound crappy, the base sounds boomy and loose. The midrange sucks too.

seriously... don't do it. spend the money on an aftermarket head unit and trunk changer.

Bose =Blows in my book.

well, i'm did it in my 2k for the exact same reason. trunk changers don't appeal to me, plus i need to install something oem for resale. the 6cd bose was an obvious choice. but yeah, coming from an alpine deck, there's no comparison to the aftermarket. we all have our reasons tho.

here's what i've come across so far. no problems with the changer mechanism so far, cross-fingers. skipping isn't an issue for me over numerouse potholes and uneven surfaces with a somewhat harsh ride (strut bars and stiff-sidewall tires) altho if you're lowered, it may be a different issue. it's stricly plug-n-play for me with the stock wiring harnesses, but it looks like i did it wrong and will need to find a 4 channel amp cuz the outs on the bose unit are apparently all pre-outs, and aren't truly powered so i ran into the obvious power issues.

will it work? yes. will it take some wiring? yes. is it convenience? YES. is the sound quality worth it? depends on if you're stock now or if you're coming from a non-bose oem unit.

bose sounded awesome coming from my last car...I mean it definitely beats many stock systems...but after I heard aftermarket systems, this thing sounds like crap.

I agree, the 6-cd changer is very convenient. Would I get it? No. Just get an aftermarket face and when you want to sell the car, put the OEM one back on. Then you can put the new face in your new car (well depending on what car you get...)

Thanks for all your advice. I probably will go aftermarket because I want a Nav anyway and I'm a big Alpine fan.

If done correctly, you'd be surprised at how good the Bose deck can actually sound. Personally, I haven't seen an aftermarket install that looks OEM enough for me. I am not a fan of that "kit look". I did car sound for a long time before I became a Realtor.
