What octane gas are you using?

Give 93 a try if you are not already

if the service manager said to read the owners manual and didn't give an ounce of effort to your question, you need to find a new place to take your car.

Join the club, myself and alot of other 3.5 Nissan owners are having the same problem. The cam and engine sensor recall that Nissan will be sending out next week may or may not help. Just wait and see what happens. I would call NNA at 1-800-NISSAN-1 and complain like crazy. Maybe the more complaints we have with this situation something might be done about it further.

Odd thing, my 95 max and 2000 I30 ping from day one, but our 2003 Murano (3.5VQ) doesn't ping at all.

Is there anything in the Murano owners manual about pinging. My thinking is that Nissan knew that the Max with the 3.5 VQ had a pinging issue but didn't want to spend the entra money then to solve it. So they put the disclaimer in the owners manual so they wouldn't have to delay the release of the car.

Let me look....yes here it is. On page 9-3 there is this disclaimer...

Every now and then you may notice a light knock which is normal. Over time you will also notice that your MAF will go, maybe more than once, which we will blame on your K&N filter. Also, please don't expect your ingnition coils to last more than 25,000 miles.

Sorry couldn't resist, But yes in the 95 Max, 2000 I30 and the 2003 Murano manual it states that a light knock is normal and will give the best fuel benefit.

Guys, just clean your throttle body and put in B&G 44k fuel treatment to your gas tank and it will be gone...at least mine did! Buy it from here:

You can here a sound thats like marbles being rolled around in a coffee can. Sometimes its louder than other times, but usually noticed under acceleration when the engine is fully warmed up and going up an incline.

Doesn't happen every time however. Its worse if you use lower octane gas, and some have said its very noticable if the ignition coils are going bad.

Hey, when does this pinging sound occur? I seem to notice this with my car when revving at 1750 to 2000 rpm's. Does this happen with you? Brought my car in for service and explained my situation, but they were unable to diagnose the problem. I need to bring the car in again because I don't want this slightly pinging sound to turn into cling clang clong sound causing it to break down. Let me know.
