HIDs gone!

Well... the inevitable has happened... last night at 11:00pm in South Orange, NJ Maxine got violated. Some punk asses jacked my headlights in front of an open Starbucks (I was around the corner having dinner). Cops came, the bastards ran off dropping one of the lights and the HID bulb, got away with the other. The car got chased (it was obviously stolen as well) but they got away after hitting the GS Parkway. Crappy weather and endangerment of the public kept the chase from continuing (I agreed, headlights aren't worth someone's life). So, I think I'm gonna live up to my decision and get rid of Maxine (Although it kills me to do so) cause its not worth the stress of wondering where and when I can safely park my car.

Lets get a poll going: A4 3.0, The new 5.30i (stretching the funds there), G35 Coupe... I'm looking sub-40K if anyone else has any other suggestions...

For everyone else that's been a victim, I feel your pain.

Why sell the car because of lights? Get some AE lights and put HID's in them. But, if you really want to sell the car and get something for under or around 40k, I would look for a used M3 (2001+).

man I feel for you. I take the Girl's RSX everywhere now.... it sucks to be Fing parnoid.

Lith, it's just this feeling that you ahve in the back of your mind with the lights in the NJ area. It sucks to be in a movie, wondering if your lights are being jacked at this moment.

I too am looking into getting rid of the Max, but I will take a beating on resale.

Any thoughts/knowledge about HID theft with the Audi or G35c?

If you really want that info, you should search their forums for "HID theft".

Like others have said, what I recommend you to do is put AE headlights and buy HIDs. Or if you really want to get a new car, get Audi A4/6 or G35. They're nice cars, but you'll have to pay more to get an Audi.

Those would be the target of professional thieves. They steal the whole car and usually ship them out of the country to sell them. Even though the thefts are occuring nostly in the NE, it will eventually affect all of our insurance premiums on the Max.

If you're looking at the audi A4 you should check out the S4 - 340 HP 6spd and AWD!

To clarify:

The E46 is probably the best car choice for you, look at it first.

The E46 takes about 5 minutes to remove, but you can only do so by popping the hood, and there are VERY few people that even know how <-- no stories about them getting the lights on www.e46fanatics.com

Take a look there. The G35, driven it, raced it, looked at it, doesn't quite do the same to the heart

Ditto. I take the Quest pretty much EVERYPLACE north and east of Somerset, NJ. I'm planning to move to Bucks County PA soon anyway; so I should be relatively safe out there and may actually be able to.....USE my Maxima regularly.

I live in New York, and when I have to drive at night and park the car on the street, I use my wife's 96 Max GLE. It is a shame.

Sorry to hear, I had my HID's stolen from me last week in Jersey also. I'm also thinking about getting rid of the car and maybe get a 6th generation or the New TL's.

That's a bummer man, it looks like the 5th Gen Headlights are a popular item considering all the theft reports. I wish there was some better means of intervention. Well I hope you don't sell your car in trade for something worse just to compromise for headlights. Anyways best of luck and I hope they get caught.

I'm not quite sure I understand.......if he were to get AE lights and put HID's in them, wouldn't he still run a risk of them getting stolen?? If he goes out say, to the movies one night, pulls into the theater parking lot, and the theives are lurking around by chance at the sametime, don't you think they'd rip them out too??

I figure people aren't lurking in places and specifically waiting for Maximas to pull up. If someone does do that and they happen to see HID's, but later see an AE housing, they may be uncertain that they are truly HID's and not just aftermarket PIAA's or something.

The only good thing about getting something new is that they are offering good financing rates. The new 2004 A4s were at 1.9% for 36 months and 2.9% for 60 months (the deal just expired, but I've got some time...3 weeks... before I get my Maxima back). The Infiniti's are going for 1.9 and 2.9 for the FX models, although if I was getting one, it would be a FX45, and that's a bit out of my price range. I doubt Infiniti will do a deal like that on a G35c. I still haven't decided what to do yet, but eventually I'll come to a decision.

i looked on ebay for HIDs and found a set. this is what it said
"a pair of Nissan Maxima headlights that were purchased from the Nassau County Police in New York, Property Bureau at auction"
so if the cops find them they just sell them instead of trying to see who they belong to???

You have nothing to worry about- you live out in the boondocks

This is happening mostly in NY/NJ/CA/FL and other states where there are Ricer scenes and around city-ish areas - its where the demand for stolen jap car goods is high

Was it the drivers side that they got away with because there is a drivers side light lense and ballast on ebay that claims NIB. HOW THE HELL DO THEY GET NEW LENSES IN A BOX, ONLY TO SELL THEM ON EBAY?????

My OPINION:

1) Fast, High Insurance, hash ridgid axle ride
2) Ok Speed/handling, Auto trannies no better than Max's Nice service in general
3) Nice...dont know to much about them...but apparently a nice car to have
4) reliablity issues...unless you are in it for flash...stay away.

it happened to my car HID in a 2000 with regular headlights. Robbed, harness cut, ECU fried.. 300-400 bucks to fix all

and if you know about HID and what they look like.. there is a definite difference in the light output from regular halogens just from looking at them on

seriously, its getting out of hand... I went to NYC last week, and you wont believe how many people had hids that conviniently match the same tint as maxima hids... it was weird how so many people had hids in cars that dont deserve hids... I saw a busted up neon with hids, an f-150, a kia sportage, honda civic.... and some others too... God help us.
