Isn't there a TSB that covers this? Something that the dealer can do to prevent them from being stolen? Is it that easy the get them out? I've only had the car 3 months but now I am going to be paranoid.

opt for 02 cl type s for the 6spd....otherwise it's a draw between cl type s and gs400 (say save your money and go acura)

I know we're just giving opinions here but the GS400 is a step up from the CLS/TLS. If I had the choice (which I will when my lease is up in 1 yr), the GS400/430 is a primary consideration followed by the 540i.

i think the TSB just puts the bigger bolts on so it takes longer to steal
otherwise, just pray....

Why would you get rid of it? You don't live in a HID theft prone area from your profile. It seems to happen in NY and NJ.

As for my opinons, I'd consider only 2 and 3. Forget #1 and #4 for reliability reasons.

EEEKKKK. You all are freaking me out. I am making my return to NJ next week with the 2k2 for the first time. Is it truly worth getting the bolts? I mean is this something the dealer charges 100 bucks and maybe stops the thiefs for another 30 seconds? I plan on trying not to go too shady of areas , but still (though if I go to New Brunswick I presume I am screwed). Eeeek.

I dont think its a big issue in western NJ (i.e.: Ringoes, East Amwell, Lambertville, etc,...) yet; though not a guarantee of anything, Ringoes has a fairly low crime rate. (looks like 30% of the cars in this area have HIDs) However, I do recommend keeping your Max in the garage @ night.

Incidentally, we're looking to move to the Ringoes area. So I've been house hunting there frequently.

Hi,

Oh yeah, trust me Ringoes is not a problem. Hahah most people keep their doors unlocked at night and some people even keep their keys in their car. I am more worried about the shady nearby areas like new brunswick, trenton, lawrenceville, etc. You, yourself will be fine in that are, trust me, its cow country still.

sorry but you definitely invited yourself to get your HIDs jacked! South Orange isn't exactly pleasantville -- that's why I don't bring the Maxima to college, I have seen at least 4 maximas with missing headlights on south orange ave alone. People pointed at my maxima before as well on that rd. Luckily I park inside the school campus which I still don't trust.

I had mine jacked before as well, very bad feeling.

Hi,

Yeah I know of friends in that area that always have a problem. It wasn't until recent too, since South Orange used to be fine. Now the theft rate is escalating. Though its not as bad the other "Oranges" and Irvington

I am considering purchasing 2K3 Maxima but after reading about HIDs thefts that are so frequent kinda have to back up a little. Isn't there really no way to secure headlights in plase, or at least put some sensor that would trigger an alarm???
There gotta be some way...

The logical thing to do is have your insurance replace the lights. Why kill yourself with higher payments of another car?

I would go for GS400 or CL type S with stick shift. Lexus is nice and dealer will kiss your *** every time you show up, high resale value, but it is very very quite - so that depends if you like to be isolated from outside. KH sound is nice too.
CL is a glorified Honda anyway you look at it, but they make best transmissions, but then the whole deal with timing belt, water pump replacement at 80k.

Go for a GS400, it looks sharp, clean design like a Benz - will look good for year. Try the seats though - long trips might be tough, but they are getting better (no Volvo/Saab though).
Good luck.

I had my stolen last year and pay $500 deductible for the dealer to fix which they bill the insurance company $5k. After I got the car back, I was lucky to rent a garage from a neighbor. But now the neighbor just bought a car and needed the garage back. Now I am stuck in a hole. I just received my insurance renewal and they raised my insurance $500 from last year. This is like getting rape and rape again.

Insurance is paying for it, but what keeps someone from trying to take the lights again? Theft deterrent kit or not, the car is vulnerable to attempted theft (and who knows what kind of body damage that will bring on...). I'd rather sleep peacefully at night and not have to worry about when I can expect another raping of my car.
