Strange noise when in reverse... and different noise when rolling forward???
i have this really high pitched squealing when i go in reverse coming from the back of my car.... and when i'm rolling forward... it sounds as if something is caught (sounds like if ur holding a ruler and u slide it across a fence)...
could it be my brakes? i'm at 24000 miles...
i've looked under the car... seems ok...

Sounds like the brakes to me. My wife's Jetta did the same thing and the dealer told me that the pads were making the noise. Kinda like a record plays (high pitch when going backwards). It went away after a while. Have you had alot of rain? Has the car been sitting for any time? the rotor surface might have light rust on it or some road dirt might be making the caliber stick. After driving is the wheel hot? may just be that the e-brake or rear brakes need adjusting.

yeah.. for some reason when I put my car in reverse and gas it, its give a louder roar than when I gas it driving normally. I dont know if its a rubbing noise, or just a loud noise....... yes I have a FSTB also.... hmmm

You have a problem like me. It's the FSTB, grinding with the engine body. I'll try to take some pictures to illustrate this.

If the sound is coming from the rear, then it could be the brakes, shocks, struts, springs or even RSB.
But if you have FSTB and the noise is only when you go reverse, I'm pretty sure it's the FSTB grinding with the engine body. One solution is to put washers below the arms of your FSTB.

I get that, too. It's pretty loud and usually happens when the car has been sitting for a while and I release the hand brake without having my foot on the brake. I let it go since it's only occasional and I haven't noticed any braking anomolies.

yeah, when I first noticed the reverse noise, (the loud noise), It was at 6ooo miles.... its 11000 for me now, and I just got used to it. IS there anything to be done:? I dont want no wheels or struts falling of because I left it alone....
