Strange Service Engine Soon Light Situation..Help please!

Hey guys, I am really stressed about this problem I'm having. This morning on the way to class at 8 am on a 30 degree morning the service engine light came on. I was going about 70 or so on the freeway. The car feels the exact same as ever. Nothing has changed that I can tell. I drove there and home the light stays on. I called Nissan when I got home they say "check the gas cap". WTF of course the gas cap is on tight. Anyhow I drove the car out to lunch with my GF and on the way back the light just goes off. Took my girl home on the way back to my house its back on again. I dont know what to do, I want to have it serviced since its still under warrenty but what if the light isnt on when they get ahold of it. Has anyone had a problem like this? Nothing seems wrong! Also is there a way I can grab the code and see whats wrong myself? Forgive me for not searching, that feature is turned off at the moment. I could really use some help guys. Thanks for your time!

Got an Autozone nearby? They will check the SES code for free. Have them check it, especially if the light is ON. If the light is OFF, they may still see a code, but not necessarily.

Yeah, Autozone will pull your code for free...they'll definitely be getting more of my business because they offer such a courtesy.

mine came on in the same situation, i just took it to nissan and found it was an o2 sensor. This also happens to be the answer everyone here gave me. Your might be different but don't be surprised if it is an o2 sensor.

Definitly let autozone run the codes.

even when the light turns off..i think that the code is still in the system.. and they can still pull it to see what was/is wrong... u can go to autozone and tell them u want to pull a check engine code... or u can take it to the dealer since ur still under warranty to have them do it.... probably take it to the dealer... so u won't have to go to two places in case u need to get it fixed...

Yea Hamy, skandalouz is right.. I'd take it to the dealer since it is still under warranty. As long as your car is around, they can tell when the SES light came on, and what the problem was. Hell, they even know if the ECU has been reset. I've been trying very hard lately to get the Hesitation TSB done, and I screwed up by telling them my SES light came on. Well, they hooked up the scanner and they said nope, never have had an SES light on, but you did manually reset your ECU, hehe, it was kind of funny.
