Good for your mom that she's making you pay (sorry for you!) it'll teach responsibility! I just switched to progressive and I pay around $700 every 6 months. With my other agent before I switched it was gonna be $1100. I have pretty low deductibles too so, that drives mine up a little. And I have 1 accident (from 5 yrs ago) and 4 Tickets (3 traffic schools-so not on my record, and 1 defective equipment-my speedo was messed up also not on my record or at least not supposed to be!) Just do some searching, but expect to pay a crapload from how young you are! When I was your age, I paid around 225 a month for a used 4 cly 2wd nissan pickup. Couldn't imagine for a new max.

Anyway good luck with finding it a little cheaper, or maybe take a second job...

High insurance is part of youth. My car is a 2k max se loaded. I am 29 years old and have 3 tickets and pay $1061 a year. My insurance in my late teens and early 20's was not that much more, it was about $1600 per year for a 90 max and then it dropped when I hit 25 while driving a 95 max to about $1300 per year. The coverage is with state farm and a $500 deductible.

Ummm, let me get this straight, you own a Maxima, you never paid your own insurance, and u have your own business? Sounds to me your spoiled. I agree. Good for your MOM, you need to learn to pay everything for yourself. I wouldn't be pissed, its her money, not yours, its not her car, its yours.

I am 19, I have a PERFECT driving record, I have a 2001 SE, live in a DC area (NOVA) and I would have had to pay $3300 DOLLARS EVERY 6 MONTHS. $7000 + A YEAR IF I OWNED THE CAR. Couldn't afford that so I had to make my mom co-owner.

insurance......

i am paying $5600 per year and i think it is ridiculus
i am a young driver, but still, 5600 per year???
i can get a decent second car with that money....
i think there should be a test on drivers so that they should be ranked by skill level, cuz the liscense test is too easy, and there are a lot of crappy drivers out there..
agree???

Are you kidding me? That's insane. Unless your parents have a couple of Ferraris and you're insured on them, that is sickeningly overpriced. Look into another company ASAP. Even when I was 16 I never paid that much, and I was co-driver on a $30,000 car.

i dind't have insurance when i was 16.. my parents and i thought i did because when i passed my on road test i called the insurance agency and say "i just got my L's so please add me onto my parent's coverage plan" then the guy said (very cool guy) "oohh ok daniel your covered now." a year passed and i bought a CRX behind my parents back with the hard earnt money i've made. then they found out i got a car and at the same time i finished highschool ahead of tiem and enrolled myself into a comunity college. my parents then decidded that they should let me drive the car since i no longer attend the same school as my brother. so as i was turning 17 we decided to register and insure the crx.. and i called the agency again "hey jim, i need to register this one car i bought half a year ago so can you switch my policy over from the jeep onto this new CRX?" and he said " sure one second." "oh michael so i see you got a new car?" me: "michael? i'm daniel.. ijust got a new car.. but the jeep is still here michael is driving it.. " "daniel? you can drive already?? you aren't covered yet. let me create a new file for you." 2 months after i purchased the insurance i got a ticket.. now was i lucky or what??? and back then for the crx since it was so old and beat up i paid 700 a year. and now the maxima is 1400 a year. premium million dollar coverage with 50dollar deductable.. and i'm still under 20.. but if i moved to LA and regisetered my adress there. .my gosh it would cost a whole nlot more.. if u want cheap rates adn u live in CA. register yourself in napa valley where thre's no cars to hit there..it's dirt cheap. i'm not doing that tho.. too much of a hassle and too risky.

Man i agree with you 200%. Get this, my sister pays about 1/2 what i do and she is 16 with only 4 months on her licence. Rear ended 2 people and hit 2 parked cars twice. And her insurance is cheaper why?!?!?!??!?!?!??! Insurance should be based on a mandatory driving test. Lets start a petition!!!!

Females always have cheaper rates. That's just how it is. Anyway, I'm 18, the car is in my name and I pay about 3 grand a year for full coverage including glass coverage. I've got a $250.00 deductible. Not too bad. Plus I have a perfect driving record. In fact I've never been pulled over in my entire life. I find that very interesting.

insurance

i know girls always have cheaper insurance rates, but i dont get why
on an average, girls are a lot crapier drivers than man, im not dissing them, but its fact. they get into little accidents a lot more and as a result, insurance company deals with them more....
but i also agree that most dangerous drivers are men
i just dont think that safe drivers like myself and a lot of you here get the crap part of it all
that mandatory driving test idea should help a lot of innocent people that are payng hight insurance prices for nothing

I pay state farm like 2020 per year...

I have $50 dollar deductible...

I know it's high... but being 20 and only driving since I was 18... they like to get a lot out of me.

I get $450 off for good grades...

the thing is, i wanted to switch to Progressive since my insurance agent is such a lazy-a$$ ****...but...he said that my insurance will go down as much as $500 with the basic home insurance...which it did..so i guess u should talk to ur agent and make it so!!

You people are crazy!

I did not have the chance to go through all of the posts...but here is my feeling. Any wreck that you are going to get into is going to cost at least 1000 dollars. Why do soooo many of you have a 50...250...or a 500 dollar deductable!!!!??? Do this....ask your insurance man or woman what you will save on the first year by raising the deduct to 1000 per incident! You will be amazed on what you save. If you don't get into a wreck a year then you should be money ahead. Plus...make sure you have renters insurance. This is where a wreck is going to kill you! I am speaking from experience here. I had a unlucky streak of 6 months that I got into 3 wrecks. Each wreck you can figure 2-3 weeks of a rental. Lets see..... 30 dollars a day for 21 days per wreck plus deductable and car payment for the car that is sitting in the back lot of Joe's paint and body!!!!!

Rip off

I agree totally with every post here! I thought it was just me. I have spent many painful hours calling every company that will give me a quote and they have been from 1800 to 2200 a year, I have been given all the excuses too! Like you live in a high state! your car is one of the higher ones! Our company lost money last year! this all after it went up 225.00 from last year!

i got allstate....

and i would be paying $1900 a year, but they give a "good student" discount, so subtract $300, so $1600, all i had to do was supply a transcript to them, and bingo, instant discount.

don't let the insurance man get you down

props to you and your mom for the insurance arrangement; parents are there to teach you how to make a life for yourself, not buy you one.

i'm paying safeco 900 a year for average coverage limits and a $100 comp. deductible - lest anything should happen to that beautiful max! i'm 22, one speeding and one traffic, no crashes, and *nothing* went up due to the tickets, other than my paranoia. it's actually less than i paid for my '83 celica gt - 6 years ago. take heart, dude - every year that goes by makes you a safer investment for the ins. company, meaning your premiums will drop. just keep driving like a sane person, use some common sense, and get your money's worth out of that beautiful car!

21, 2000 Maxima GXE 5spd & 90 Honda CRX HF. The maxima is full coverage with $500 deductible. CRX has state minimum requirements (something like 15/20/15 or some crazy thing like that). I pay $200/mo, which it just dropped...last month, i was paying $306/mo...but i just turned 21. One crash, wasn't at fault. One speeding ticket in 97. And i live in Vegas.

Been reading this board a bit, but just started posting tonight. Interesting thread. I am 29 in CT (yes the high income/high everything state). 2001 AE Loaded, leased requires 100/300/100 minimum and I took $500 deductible. My rate through Reliance Direct (now Kemper) around $950 annual. Zero tix, accidents, or other incidents. I can honestly say that local agents through large companies wanted almost double. Progressive and Geico who advertise here intensively couldn't touch this price either. Shop it aorund you can always find someone better.
