GOD DAMN- Noise when flooring

Yo guys, i gotta a question. So today i was on the expressway and i wanted to pass up some guy so i floored it and it hit approx 6400k RPM and a huge thud noise, then shifted back down to 3000k rpm (3rd gear i guess). Now first of its sad that i didnt even get near redlining this. I always hear about you guys redilining your max;s but i guess mine is different. I have a 2000 GLE Maxima (auto). Also whats that thudding noise. Is the thudding noise different and is there anyway i can redline my max besides downshifting. Thanks guys fo all your input in advance.

PS> does that noise possibly mean my clutch is slipping?

Could possibly be broken motor mounts. Why do you want to redline? You could end up doing so kind of damage to your drivetrain if you are not careful.

When you go WOT, the transmission downshifts for better acceleration. Also known as "passing gear."

you have an autotragic...therefore...no clutch man...
you have a torque converter instead...

Automatics have plenty of clutches. The thing is that they shift through hydraulic action instead of manually.

if you floor your auto at 60 mph, it will downshift to 2nd on its own... 2nd gear is good to 82+ mph...

in my 2k2 i put it in 2nd at 60 and its fine and i shift at about 75. i dont do this all the time, but the auto goes into 3rd sometimes and i hate that.

thing is that when you floor it, the transmission engages with all power pushing forward, one way, the way it is designed. when you manually 'crunch' it down, you are killing it, as you are slamming all the force on the transmission. makes sense? never downshift an auto manually unless at really really low rpms.

autos have a bunch of cluthes that are fragile. it's not a single master clutch like most manuals. so when something breaks, its time for a major rebuild (just getting to the parts is enough).

unless you get a thud all the time i wouldn't loose sleep over it. everything makes noises now and then

Ha! So can driving the car. You don't really pretend to tell us that you never redline your car? I don't do mine frequently but it's definitely made to redline at times.
