I stand corrected. I guess it can't be done on our 5th gens with the Immoblizer. It can be done on cars without coded keys for sure.

consult II?

seems like a LOT of stuff set up to steal a stock looking car. yeah gone in 60 seconds did that, but look at the cars they were stealing. plus, the man was having dinner with his wife. unless he's mafioso or carrying sugar over the border, they wouldn't really go through that much trouble.

the immobilizer thing is questionable, but i'd be almost 100% certain in saying it was carried out, not driven.

and yeah, i agree with the 4th gen. dont' need a key. hotwire and vroom vroom. already happened twice to 2 friends. i was with them both times, in a bowling alley. for a tow truck to wedge it's way in there would have been pretty tough. that and the glass on the floor gave it away.

my question is this. it's a 6speed. did you have it in gear only or gear +ebrake or ebrake only. just curious into seeing how else they could have broken the wheels loose. ebrake line can be cut, right? and can the clutch cable also be cut? only accessible point is the engine pay since the clutch cable is inside vs under the car. which means they had to have snipped the horns to avoid the alarm going off, popped the hood, disable the clutch, then have it towed up.

what's even more confusing is to do all this, look calm, in front of a restaurant (video cameras didn't show anything) and not one person noticed. i would suspect something if a car is being towed and they are doing so much stuff just get it up there. plus, the'yd have to work pretty fast unless they knew the owners ("he's only up to the appetizer, we still have time")

Sorry to hear
I just found out that if you have remote start they take one of the chipped keys and put it into a unit under the dash so the remote start can sense the chip. BIG PROBLEM - all you have to do is break in and take the key out of the unit and away you go.

That's why you Lojack if you have remote start and you only have the chip in there as a bypass, not the whole key. Still stealable, but if they can GPS track it, all the better.

gap insurance covers the "gap" in the amount of money you paid for the car and the amount the car was worth. so if you total it and you owed 10 grand but your car was only worth 8 grand, insurance only pays the 8. so it pays the 2 and it also gives you about 1000 more to buy a new car if yours is totalled or stolen in your case. i have it on mine because i have a lot of miles and it is worth less than i owe on it. it really is a good idea.

I was trying to sell the car at the time because my
wife had gotten laid off. Then it turned out to be ok because she found a better paying job. I still have to talk to the insurance and see what they do. I talkied to the sales man that sold me the car(friend) and he told me it is very possible to steal any car-then he asked me to buy another one.

As far as the payments are concern I was always on time and also
I would send extra money just in case I would get in a bind like it
happened when my wife got laid off. In 8 months that I owned the
car I paid close to $7000.

Wow, sorry to hear about the loss.

Reading this discussion on having a key made has me thinking it's time for another mod: Stealth dashboard VIN! Perhaps some electrical tape? Yeah, I'm sure there's some law stating that the VIN must be visible on the dash at all times, but really, who checks? I agree, there are plenty of dealers that won't think to ask for ID or require that you drive the car in...remember, we are talking about Nissan service here.

This Is very fishy this guy may probably be arrested pretty soon for Insurance Fraud. When you least expected it will back fire on you be careful if this is what you did left your car in Mexico and reported stolen. After so many post of selling your car and that you didn't wanted anymore its fishy 100% .And if there investigating you already they may even find this information about the posting. Now these days its hard to fool the Insurance Co.

Except the ones that are stolen from the US. I had no idea they put such a small engine in a Max. My truck has a 2.4 liter in it.

They had a story about this a few months ago on 48hours regarding people who pay crooked bodyshops or tow companies to steal their cars and strip them clean. If anyone was going to pull an insurance scam like this you'd have to be beyond stupid to leave a papertrail on a public website like Maxima.Org

Fishy indeed!

The 4th and 5th gen max is even more unique. All over the world the Cefiro (I35) is the maxima. IN the U.S. and Canada the 5th gen is very different from the cefiro. You can't retrofit the lights for example when you could have on the 4th gen.

It'll be worth a lot of money somewhere in south america
Plus you have HIDs?

This is easily the simplest form of insurance fraud, folks. At least he didn't pay a buddy of his to "steal" his car and then blow it up...

Damn guys
I know I was trying to sell the car but not stupid to do something like that. Like I said I did plan to stay with the car and mod it. I know it sounds fishy but thats what happened. I bet half of you guys have thought about turning in your car for another one. I have all the keys of the car. Well what can I say I have bad luck. I am currently driving a 03 s-10-I dont think I would want to go from a maxi to a s-10. Well like I said it does sound fishy but I still got screwed.

if you want to keep it and mod it...why did you try to sell it over and over and over, each time for a lower price, sounded like you really wanted to get rid of it.
