mpg drop!

I noticed today that my mpg on the trip computer was incredible low at 13.7mpg. This is right after I got my car back from the 15,000mi. maintainance so I figure they must have screwed something up...but what? So I got 27 miles and my tank went from full to half empty! What is wrong with Maxine!?!

i would ask them exactly what they did and let them know what happened and see what they think could have gone wrong. mine on the other hand has bad gas milage because of my exhaust.

mine's got bad gas mileage because it's a piece of isht....19.4 mpg with today's fillup - i dont have an '03 but i wouldn't rely on a trip computer to tell me gas mileage...i always take distance on trip divided by gallons i fill up with....my record on my '00 is 21.5...

Have you filled up reset the trip computer?or calculate manually? They may have left your car idling a long time during the service and it drank down a ton of gas.

What in hell is wrong with your car? I have an 00 5 speed with 61k on it. Last tank I got 26 mpg (dividing gallons filled into miles driven and not using a trip computer, since my car lacks one), and that was including about 2 hours of bumper to bumper traffic idling and although most of the rest was on the highway I was averaging at least 80 mpg for most of it. I know that the 21/27 my car is supposed to get is easily reachable. I'd surely get 27 sitting on the highway at 70. City/highway I generally average about 23-24.

I kinda had the same problem last week. I have been getting 27 mpg, then all the sudden one night it shot down to 15 mpg. I was hella low on gas so that may have something to do with it, but now its steadily climbing back up, I think I'm at 24.5ish now and rising.

My friend, I WISH i knew what was wrong with my MPG.....i don't EVER drive the car hard...hell, the only the time it ever goes over 3k rpm is on the highway at 75-80mph...i do 80/20 city/highway, a 16 mile highway trip to work each morning, usually backroads home......i rarely make it to 300 on a tank before the gas light comes on, this tank it happened at 284.5....really frustrates the crap out of me, i wish my mpg was better but after this long i've just resigned to the fact that it is what it is, and i just deal with it....if someone told me 'oh, this is wrong, and this is what you need to spend to definitively fix it', it'd be done posthaste....the bg44k didn't help as i thought it would in respect to the mpg....i'm at a loss....haven't had a problem with the car since i bought it in june (put 9k mi on it so far), and it's a manual too....always use sunoco 93, never anything different since i've had it...

Hey man i feel ya, honestly if i knew my car gets this kinda mileage, i would of never bought it in the first place, i never get to 300 miles per tank and right now i got 102 on my odometer and i'm a dash above a half tank, that is ridiculous. I drive very conservative also.

couldn't a bad O2 sensor cause the car to run too rich and thus use more gas?

Do you think the colder weather may have something to do with your gas mileage?

its part the weather and part the gas. if i do remmeber correctly this has been discussed before. the gas companys use fuel that has less octane during the winter time or somehting like that. dont remember why but i think that might be possible.

Its sorta amusing seeing ppl's reaction to s h i t t y mpg. For the most part I get 300 to the tank, and every time I fuel up, the car gobbles up 16.5 gallons, so actually Im getting 18 mpg, even though registers 19.xx. I do 90-10 city/hwy driving. On the hwy, my actual mpg jumps up to 27, so I know there is nothing wrong with the car. I run the car hard about 25% of the time, and on the hwy, I park myself in the slow lane and cruise.

At $30 a tankful, it does get frustrating. When I bought the car, I knew it was going to be a drastic difference as compared to my Camry, but sheeit ! I wonder if the 240 hp Accord guys are getting 18/24 city/hwy. They would probably laugh at us if they knew what poor mileage we get.

At some point every winter, the gas companies in the colder climates switch to winter formulated gas. It contains ethanol or methenol to supposedly help it burn easier when it's cold. Gas mileage always drops for me during colder parts of the year. Even though it does not get very cold in Florida.

My AE was giving me about 400-420 miles back in September on 2.5 hour roadtrips. 02 sensor went out and gave me about 280 on 1 tank and after getting both 02 sensors replaced its right around 370 right now and the light is starting to come on. I'm pretty easy on it but it has been flogged 2-3 times per tank.

Its weird to see the vast differences in peoples mpg.

Lets face it. I did not expect my car to have great gas mileage when I bought it. After all it is 3.5L. Our engines are pretty much state of the art and I dont think that the mileage could get any better. Most of the guys complain here complain that they dont have the 3.5L when it comes to making horsepower, but they have to realize that making horsepower comes at a cost.

By the way, my 90 max and my 03 max pretty much get the same mileage.
