Tokico Illuminas OR KYB-Gr2s

Ok i want to get my suspension done.....i have a set of Eibach Pro kit springs sitting in my room

i want to get new shocks and struts because the stock ones cant handle them

should i go with Tokico illuminas (which are adjustable) are $500
or
KYB-Gr2s( which arent adjustable) but are like $300

i hate the floated air feeling especialy when im on the highway going the handling is horrible

but i dont want to have a horrible ride

The Illumina allows you to change the ride or handling balance of the car. It has 5 setting that adjust both compression and rebound simultaneously. You can go from almost stock ride at 1 to bumps hurt firm at 5.

Almost every lowered 5th gen is running Gr2s at the moment and most are happy with them. They are comparable to a say, 2 1/2 on the Illumina adjustment scale.

I have been waiting on the Illuminas to be released since back in the spring. They will give me the ability to select the ride i want, change it when needed, and dial out some of the understeer. To get a better idea of what actual experience people have had with them, go ask some of the guys in the 4th gen forum. I have had Illuminas in the past but not on this platform.

Its Tokicos hands down. The Illuminas are far better than Gr-2's......You might want to check out AGX's

I have Tokico blues, which are not as good as Illuminas

I'm satisfied w/ my ride on the KYBs. My girl said that it really dosen't feel any different than when it was stock. The best part is that.. I've found it hard to bottom out and my wheels don't rub at all w/ the TEINS.

i have found that my eibachs are to stiff for me with my stock shocks but i am not sure if illuminas will help with that. i am thinking about buying H&R's and illuminas together. But i think that the illuminas are the best overall package (reliability, performance, cost, and precision). if you think they are to expensive then go look at koni's. now those are expensive. I personally think that illuminas are really alot better with lowered springs than GR2's and that is what it really boils down to.

i am going with the GR2's since the H&R's will not drop the car all that much. if i decide to get teins, then i will go with the new illuminas.

I've been waiting very impatiently to upgrade my suspension....at 16k it is TRULY hard to wait!! i can't stand the SE suspension on this car....it's not even compliant enough to call comfortable, let alone sporty!
That and new tires will make me ALOT happier!

Anyway -- I'm definitely going to go with the Illumina / Tein combo when the Illuminas finally become available for 5th gens.
When you ask? I have no idea - and neither does anyone else on this forum.

Do I NEED the full adjustablility of the illuminas-?
No, but I SURe do WANT it!

I drive pretty aggressively, but don't autocross or anything like that.
I guess I've always wanted this car to handle more like a BMW rather than a Volvo.

Spend a little more - get the adjustability. Spend less and get a reasonably firm strut without the adjustability....the choice is yours.
Either are good, and both are better than stock.

Not sure if I want to...

Not sure if I want to spend that much money to buy shocks/struts and they turn out to not be stiff enough.
I also driven agressively but don't want the ride to be overly stiff.
So, in relative terms, what is the next "stiffest" shock/strut for the Maxima?

The first thing I did was try to tame some of that FWD understeer -- a Stillen rear sway bar and -1.5 deg camber up front. Really helped, but still plenty of understeer. Not sure what to do about springs. Anybody know what the stock spring rates are for a 2k1 SE?
