car wont start

dont worry, mine runs fine but i need help with my gf's car. hopefully this wont get deleted until i get an answer. she has a 95 sebring convertible (i already lectured her on american cars) and her car wont start. we tried jumpin gthe battery to no avail. it did not turn over. but her interior lights still go on and so do her headlights. she has an alarm that you have to hit the key fob once in the car to let the car start before you put the key in. im wondering if it is her ignition or starter? or could it be her alarm? her alarm does not open the doors and the radio does not come on, but the headllights do. and the a/c does not blow anything either. any help is greatly appreciated because im tired of driving her *** home every night.

If the accesories come on, and you hear the clicking sound when turning the ignition, I would assume its the starter. Safe to say its not an electrical problem, since you already tried to jump it, and the interior lights and headlights come on. Impossible to say whether its a fuel delivery problem, but if she never had problems with fuel pump and fuel delivery before, dont see where this would be the case.

Go get a junk starter and get a mechanic friend to throw it on, shouldn't take more than an hour. That car doesn't deserve to see inside of a dealer shop, esp not for $75 an hour mech and electrical, yeesh ! They will get you.

Good luck.

there is no noise whatsoever. nothing. you just turn the ignition and nothing feels different no noise. its weird. could it still be the starter? how would i know if it s a fuel delivery problem?

Oops, I assumed it was clicking over. Its likely a fuel delivery issue.

1)I know it sounds silly, but perhaps she has run out of gas ?? Has she ever run out of gas, does she let it go dry before re-fueling ??

2) Does her car give the traditional fuel pump hum, like our Maxima's do ???? Do you still detect the hum ? If not, its the fuel pump. Try to see if there is any pressure in the fuel rail.

At this point, seems more like the fuel pump bro. If the battery was dead, no lights would come on.

ok. i just spoke to her on the phone and she spoke to a friend who got his fuel pump fixed very recently and he doesn not think its that due to the symptoms. when you put the key in it turns forward but no sound nothing. its weird. she has 1/2 tank of gas so thats not it/ i told her take it 2 a repair shop and let them deal with it. the weird thing is is that her key fob will not unlock the doors, im still wondering if it is the alarm because the radio wont turn on but everything else electrical does.

Ok, I see what you're saying... Well, then reset the alarm. Usually, there is a switch mounted somewhere in the psgr compartment, or you can manually reset the alarm holding the buttons down (simoultaneously, or in sequence) on the key fob.

One time, my 98 Camry refused to start (no noise when turning on via key ignition). I suspected it was something with the alarm (when has a 26K mile Camry ever not started ), so I held down the buttons, the alarm ran audibly for a bit, then deactivated, and I was able to start her right up. Your gut instinct is right.

Good luck.
