I'm assuming the $139 they quoted you was for a tranny flush, that is actually an average going price for that service. I think midas is the only one I have seen that charges considerably less. As for the how to, without the machine that actually performs the service you will only be able to drain a portion of your old fluid thus greatly decreasing any benefits associated with changing the fluid to begin with. If you really want to change the tranny fluid, you may want to consider shopping around and getting the flush done.
Just my 2 cents

You can do it yourself for the price of the ATM fluid.
1)Unhook input line from tranny to radiator
2)Put line in a bucket
3)Start car, let 2 to 3 quarts enter bucket
4)Shut off car
5)Pour 2 to 3 quarts in transmission fill
Do this until you have gone through 10 to 12 quarts or the liquid is coming out clear. You could also pour 12 quarts of new into one bucket and put the output to tranny line in the bucket to suck the new fluid in as the old fluid is going out. Good luck!
