Are there any major differences in 4th and 5th gen engines?

Besides the obviously intake manifold and how the 5th gen has a true Variable Intake, is there anything different?

Only reason I ask is I got the opportunity to get a 4th gen working engine for under 200. Yes its working engine.

I just dont know if they changed the heads or cams. I want this to start my build up project since I got time. If the engine itself including the heads, cams, timing chain and all that good stuff is the same, then Im going to ****** this. I will just move over all the things to this engine when Im ready to drop it in.

I dont know if this has even been done or addressed.

i've heard about how the cams are slightly different on the 5th gen to make up the drop in hp/tq that the 4th gens have with the MEVI by bumping up the compression and the ECU to advance timing somewhat.

other less important differences are like how the oil pan drains at a different direction. The 5th gen points toward the rear of the car, i believe the 4th gen points sideways towards the passenger side

I think i remember Dave Burnette mentioning that the bottom end of the 5th gen motor is different... but I am not so sure about it.

From what I've read, the VQ30DE-K also has a thin-walled aluminum block. The cams are milder and as stated previously the intake manifold is different.

I know its been discussed before, but I'm lazy and forgetful, but if the 4G cams are more aggressive, can they be swapped in somewhat easy? I'm not so much asking liek I'm gonna do it, but more for general information...

Well i'm pretty sure it can be an easy swap considering the intake manifold of the 4th gen is "shorter" (not as tall) as the 5th gen so it should clear. The outside dimensions are similar as are the mounts. The ECU most likely would have to be swaped.
