B&M short throw installed -- will it loosen up?

I got a B&M STS installed with a momo **** and boot yesterday, and the shifter is really stiff. Will it loosen up at all over time or stay stiff? Its not too stiff but i have to use a lot more force to shift compared to stock. As far as performance is concerned, the STS is a nice improvement. Much quicker shifts and easier to keep the rpms up.

That's physics for you. You now have a shorter lever that travels a shorter distance, but you are trying to do the same amount of work, so you have to exert more force.

It's always going to be like that!!! I like it that way. At first, I too had to use more force to shift. But I got use to it. Don't worry, you'll get used to it too!!!

I installed one on a 2000 Sentra SE, and it was VERY stiff. What I actually did to make it loosen up was this:

Supplies: Synthetic Brake Caliper Grease and some lock-tite

- Loosen main bolt that attaches the shifter to the the transmission rod.
- Apply (heavy) the Calip Grease to the Shifter Ball and coat the bolt for the above rod.
- Wipe off the end of the bolt and apply lock-***. Now SNUG the Bolt + 1/2 turn. Let Lock-*** dry for 24 hours.

Buttery Sweetness.

Good Luck.

Joe

Thats a good idea, i knew there must be some way to make it smoother. I remember reading about people shaving down the shifter ball on the pacesetter sts, has anyone done it with the b&m? (no search) I might try the caliper grease if i cant take the stiffness anymore. Thanks.

Also remember bro, that the weight of the shift **** makes all the difference. A Stock **** will make shifting a chore. I used a nice B&M leather **** and it worked awesome. I was amazed on the change with the heavy **** and the greased shifter.

Have fun

How was the install? I want to get one eventually. Did you have to remove the heat shield from the cat or anything? Is it a simple bolt on?

Thanks

Best way to do this, is with the catalytic converter removed. I'm skinny, so I was able to work around the cat without removing it!!!!!! If the cat is removed then the rest is simple.

When I had mine installed, it was really stiff. However, it was installed at the same time as my rebuilt tranny, so some of the stiffness was coming from the tranny too. Over about a month, the B&M, and probably the tranny too, both loosened up.
