Hit the gas too hard?!

I was driving yesterday and needed to get into another lane and rolled a bit then floored my car all the way to the stopper and the tires spun a bit then at about 3k rpm my car just shut off!!!!!!!!! i had to cut 3 cars traveling right at me to pull into the median. I turn the key off then back to on and started it right up ... the SES light came on and I drove for a bit, the car was pinging and detonating like crazy... i couldnt go over 40mph... I reset the ECU (by doing the throttle trick) then the car felt fine.....

I was just wondering WTF???! THATS DANGEROUS I almost got hit by 3 cars cause my car limped out! Has anybody had this happen?

Future advice when something like that happens. Put your car in N start it up again and put it in D instead going over 3 lanes and stopping at a median. This way your car is still rolling and you are less likely to cause an accident.

Automatics don't start in N.

you left out the part you told me...he took it into the dealer and the fukcing idiots told him he pushed the gas pedal to hard and that was the cause of it

This is the exact same situation that happened to me. Floored it and the car died. Re-starting the car was a nighmare (almost the slightest amount of gas would make it stall again). Eventually I was able to get it to the dealer. They said that the accelerator pedal was to blame (it is drive by wire so who knows). I had them do the MAF fix at the same time. So far everything is normal, although I probably haven't floored it quite as hard as that one time. Hope this helps.

1st: Automagic Maximas do start in Nuetral. I've done it.
2nd: Have you had the gas pedal stop recall performed? They put in an extended stopper that will keep you from overextending the throttle. That should fix your problem.

Has he had any further problems with the car? Is the MAF OK?
