What do you think the 3.5 is capable of with FI?

Everybody knows the VQ is one of the best engines in the world. I know there are some turbo apps. in the works but nothing definitive yet... Anyways, I was wondering if any of you guys care to make an educated guess as to how much our beloved 3.5 could muster with a little forced induction. The 3.6 in the Porsche is around 400 and the new VW R32 has a new aftermarket turbokit in three stages ranging from 400 to 550 to 600 hp and its a 3.2(!) I'll bet the NIssan motor could match that with the proper add ons. What do you think?

those are stock internals in the VW? I don't know, but I'd bet they upgraded/strengthened other stuff.

I'm going to guess a VQ with completely stock internals could safely handle ~450hp.

Yeah I'm sure they strengthened and swapped out alot of the stock internals. But that VW is a beast. Its nearly the same weight as the 2k2 Max and runs a 3.2 0-60mph and a tick over 11 sec. All that and the VW has a 3/10's disadvantage in terms of displacement. I can't wait til someone slaps a TT onto the MAX!

I think possibly a 3.5 naturally apsirated without the turbo, I would guess around 325hp possibly, just possibly. I mean look at BMW M3 it's a 3.3 and it has 333hp. Turbo, I would second that with the 450 hp.

I just remebered reading about a Stillen Turbo 350z that was conservatively putting down around 320 or so. I don't know what I would do with 450 through my front wheels.... broken wrists!

325 sounds right on for NA hp. Peak hp of course... a lil sacrifice down low possibly.
Cams, Headers (hotshot hopefully), b-pipe, UDP, intake, straight pipe, TS ECU, and an upgraded intake manifold that might be comin, that would put us well over the 300 mark.
On stock internals, the VQ probly wouldnt handle much above 450 I'd guess, as mentioned above. Who's the guy who's rebuilding the 3.5 to handle boost tho?? I cant remember who ya are...

Actually you probably wouldnt go anywhere, FWD, if your going to get a turbo that puts down that crazy HP then i dont know how your going to get it to the ground unless your running some street legal slicks 24/7 or like the highway racing - but im saying it probably wouldnt be to good for drag racing - u might spin through all gears

Well, since people are running around with 300+ hp (and a few with 400+) on the 3.0, I was assume the stronger/bigger 3.5 would hold at least 400 hp pretty easy.

I'm one of the guys that is in the process of rebuilding for boost...

8.5:1 pistons, Pauter rods (both Swain Tech coated), NX Wet kit...

NRH custom built auto tranny /w LSD...

I'm also looking into (along with a few others) at a different MAF setup (Cobra), bored out TB, port matched plenums, new injectors...

Depending on the price, I'll probably go with a VATN turbo (they're self contained units)...

I'm actually about a year away from the hard work...
