A guy told "trade in your family car for..."

I was talking with a guy yesterday night about cars... that guy told me "trade in
your family sedan for a nice Lexus IS300 for excelent handling... i bet you with your when you go 87-90 mph you'll loose control" I was like WTF this guy says...
i was like "whatever" i didnt want a fight him... and all this things because i told him if can find me a 6 speed maxima (he is a dealer man -thats he said-) and he was like "Oh man you dont need a maxima... take a nice lexus IS300"

so the IS300 it has better handling? Its a nice car but the maxima i think its faster than that...

I took an IS300 stock in my 2k1 auto, so the guy was clearly talking out of his a$$. But I know exactly what you're talking about. My friend and I stopped by a dealership looking to test drive a 2k2-2k3 6 spd. I asked the sales guy if they had any on the lot, said he'd need to check. He goes insite the office, as he does, I tell my buddy "watch, he probably doesn't have one, but he'll try to sell me an Acura" We both couldn't help but laugh when the guy came out, said he didn't have any 2k2-2k3 maximas, and offered to show me an Acura instead. Hey, at least they are predictable.

That was a stupid comment on his part, I would have said get your IS and lets do a straight line drag and see who's laughing. Being the realist I am most encounters are on the straight line in this country where the poor little IS just gets whooped by just about everything out their. Every car has it faults adn I woul dvery much rather have the power and decent handling vs lack of power and good handling, I rarely swoop!

My buddy at work has an IS300. And although I can smoke him in a straight line with my 6 sp... I wouldn't rip on his car one bit. Besides having a tight interior, the handling is superb! Sure it can't get to 60 in 6 flat, but ~6.7 isn't exactly slow.

The IS300 is a sweet ride, I eagerly await an IS430.

I believe an IS300 already comes with eibach suspension, sorry if im wrong, but it definetely handles better than a stock maxima. Then again, its pretty slow.

IS430? I don't think it's possible that would get a V-8 in that little engine bay. Have you looked under the hood of the IS300 its damn tight just like VW engine bay. Unless you meant IS330?

IS430... it's fictitious. I've officially heard nothing, nothing other than that various sources feel that Lexus is missing an ethusiast model at their "higher" range. In fact the IS300 may be the cheapest Lexus one can buy. I was assuming a hypothetical "IS430" would be a different platform. A high performing car that could competes with the likes of an M3 or something simliar. Is the GS430 the fastest 0-60 car Lexus makes? I want to say yes, and it can't make the sprint to 60 any faster than a manual 2k2 or 2k3 max. Unless if the SC400 has gotten any faster. I don't know... I guess it just goes to show how much Lexus does focus on luxury. Which there is nothing wrong with that... I'm more of an enthusiast myself.

Well, I will stand corrected than. I had never heard anything... just that a faster IS would fill a gap in the Lexus line up.

yeah they made one...but it wont be a production model...

the is guys on is300.net don't want a 3.3l engine because it's a v6 and they love their i6 (who can blame them though?)

...they also claim the 3.3l engine is made for fwd cars and not rwd but that can easily be changed or something just like how our VQ is in all types of cars--fwd, rwd, and awd

for you guys that are ripping on the IS300 need to drive one. not that fast, but everything else on the car is excellent. good seats, interior, handling. its really a great car, but for the money i dont think its worth it. IMO g35 would be better (atleast a coupe)

also for those that arnt firmiliar with the engine in it, its very similar to the engine used in the supras, and has mod potential like you would believe. its so expensive to mod those cars though.

anyways..... for the money of a new IS300 there are a plethra of cars i would consider over it. G35coupe, STI, slightly used 330xi, used 540i

but like others said. you should have had him pull an IS300 off the lot, and hit the drag stip against your "grocery getter". then see what excuses he throws at you

Yeah, the GS400/430 is still the quickest and fastest Lexus produced to date. 0-60 in the upper 5s and mid-low 14s in the quarter mile, with a top speed governed at 155mph.

Now that would be a logical upgrade from the 5G Maxima. But the IS is like the TSX; built for young 20-something ITR and Si owners who've finished college recently and now have careers and are looking to upgrade. just my $.02!!

Screw that guy ! I have never lost to one. Most guys that drive them are either , or former Civic ricers that got a bonus and put it as a down payment...

I know of a few 2k2's with NX that have walked Turbo Is300's.....

As far as suspension goes.... mod YOUR suspension....and see what happens !

ok my girl has an is and its a nice car wouldn't spend that kind of money on it though....but it handles a lot better than my 02 max but the max is a lot faster i ran with my car a 14.6 at the track and drove hers only to pull a 15.9....but bith cars are auto and let me tell you hers shifts a lot better too nice and smooth and quick....its also fun to drive in the the snow drove it all weekend during the snowstorm i actually would prefer to drive hers in the snow....but in the end i like my family sedan a lot better cause now that i've done some suspension upgrades it handles well and i'm more for the speed and power

But wouldn't paying that for that overpriced L-tune stuff leave you feeling seriously violated? Not worth the bucks.

Though I am now killing even more of them in my "new" '92 SE-R....Twisties driiving is about driver skill more than anything else.

You guys like to bash the IS300, but in reality, it's not even in any type of competition for the Maxima (except for the fact that it has 4 doors). It's built better, will have less problems overall, has VASTLY SUPERIOR service departments and dealership folks, handles better, has tons of mods (comparitive to a 5.5 Gen Maxima anyway), is RWD...

I could go on, but why? They should not be compared. And the manual fully loaded IS300 can be had for just over $30K...

But wait, the nature of this thread is that Greek's dealer told him to dump the Max in favor of the IS. That makes it fair game come back at the IS, countering with the Maxima's virtues.

If you want to get really subjective, the Infiniti I35 (Maxima heart/Infiniti wardrobe) will still outpace the IS and give you a great service dept experience and NO problems.

Peace.

The IS300 is all around a better car. For those of you who think Your 02+ is faster, it should be. .5L greater displacement and 200lb lower curb weight. This is like the people that talk about how they smoked a civic. You should with the given variables. My best friend just bought an 03 IS300 5spd. He beats the auto IS300 on a regular. He beats me every time with my 01 SE auto. It doesn't impress me that a Maxima, lighter, more powerfull IS-215,Max255, as well as a bigger engine would beat it in a straight line. Overall performance is far better than the Max. Lets not go into reliability and service either. We all know Nissan service leaves a lot to be desired. I also don't know of any Maximas that are running 10's or better FI. Yet another example of the Max's shortcomings compared to the IS300. I like my Maxima, I should have bought a 5spd IS300.
