need underdriving facts

I want to get a underdrive pully but want to know if its really a good idea. I dont know where the harmonic balancer is on the 3.0 but if its on the crank pully i guess it takes 20,000 miles off the life of the engine. also is it safe to underdrive the al/tnator water, power steering pumps???

harmonic balancer is not on the pulley. udp are safe to run and even some audiophlies run them with their systems. if you have something extreme then it might not be a great idea. the only pulley available is the crank pulley, which will underdrive the compressor and alternator. power steering is run off another belt which a pulley is not available for. only issues i have had with my udp pulley were noise from subpar belts and improper initial install which led to the death of 2 tensioner pulleys.

Sloppymax is right,
But mine worked great form the get go. I think it is the perfect mod.
Quicksilver is putting a group deal together as we type, so check that forum.
I see you have 6 posts so first it is welcome aboard. Then a reminder to stay away from thr RVM one. The UR on the other hand is a beauty IMHO

An engineer friend of mine who has been racing all his life says
taking this amount of weight off the crank probably frees up
6HP in the lower gears.

Even when I am running lap top, GPS, Rear wind def, fogs and h lites
nothing ever dims and it always starts. So with underdriving, ya wont notice.
With multiple trunk filling amps, then think about the non underdrive.

I've got 2 amps. 1's a 500/1 JL Audio with 2 12SL7's and the other amp is a 300 watt JVC on high's. I'm getting a cap soon and probably swapping the battery to a blue top. Do ya'll think that if I get a UDP it will rob my power and not be worth it.

thomasd cook,
With what you list I would go non underdrive just to be safe.
You will still get the majority of the benifit by lightening the crank.
