5spd Swap DONE! Very easy actually.

Well some of you know this has been going on for awhile now, almost 1month it took me to do cause of parts issues. I ordered almost all the parts from DaveB new except the Transmission. Basically that turned out to be a nightmare cause most of the parts needed to be ordered and some parts wouldnt arrive for at least 2months which needed to come from Japan direct. DaveB couldnt believe how crazy it was.

But basically here is the run down to make it simple. Basically got a 95 tranny, opened it up, took the differential out and had a custom LSD put in place. Me and Jay25 sealed it back up with new bearings on the diff and new seals with new PNP switch and I ripped the speed gear ring off the diff and gave the speed gear to Jay25 and took his cap.

Clutch is a StageII SPEC Kevlar clutch based to hold 409ft lbs. Fidanza Flywheel. New axels left and right. But here is the kicker, made sure the driver side axel was a 4th gen with ABS and no TCS. If there is no ABS speedring on it and your 5th gen doesnt have TCS, then your speedo wont work, cause its based off the ABS unit. NOT the speedgear that people think it is, only on the TCS models it uses the speedgear inside the tranny. Only issue in using a 4th gen tranny is that it makes your shifter seem like its technically in N but its really in the lower gears (2 4 R). The shift linkage out of the tranny is 1/4" longer than the 5th gen tranny, multiply that with a 3' long shift rod, and it ends up being off a whole gear. So I basically bent the shift rod inside by heating it so it doesnt look off anymore AND I can put the shift console on and be able to shift into the top gears (1 3 5).

Some different things I did to make this install unique besides the use of the 95 tranny is that I did not use a single OEM clutch line, not even the banjo rubber line going to the slave cylinder. I basically used a -3an stainless steel braided line with pre-crimped ends straight from the Master Cylinder to the Slave Cylinder, no Ts, no cooling line, straight shot. This made my install a joke since everyone says putting in the lines around the ABS unit is a pain, not with my line. It also took me 5mins to bleed the line with Jared at my house. I think because the braided line and it being shorter and a straight shot, the pedal is soft as butter yet still engages the clutch rock solid. I love it, I didnt want a hard pedal anyways.

Yes my Reverse lights work, My speedo works, My cruise works, My Ignition only turns on when the clutch pedal is down, and NO my remote start is not wired to bypass the clutch yet.

Putting in the pedals took me 2hrs including drilling the hole for the master cylinder. I didnt take the steering wheel down or gauge cluster out or anything.

http://www.turbofedmax.com/fullpics/5spd/ These are all the pics of the progress/install. I will be making a FULL writeup on this with nissan part #s, wiring diagrams for the clutch switch, cruise, reverse, all that good stuff.

Price breakdown.

$250 for the tranny
$700 for clutch and flywheel
$150 for clutch pedal and shift rods (junkyard)
$700 for custom lsd
$125 new bearings and seals for diff
$600 misc parts like master cylinder, slave, brake pedal, shift console, axles, crap like that.

Total of $2525 but we talking the creme of the crop here cause I got the top of the line crap since the turbo is going to need every bit of it.

And just for comparisons sake, a custom built automatic tranny built up to the same performance specs as this one ends up about $1000 more than this setup. way to go Dixit !

yaaay Dixit.

Now just wait 500-750 miles before you really throw the gears around, oh wait, probably too late

I really want to know how the clutch line holds up for you, I might just do that for mine lol.

Its got 650miles on it now and there is no issue with the clutch line or the clutch. The pedal is softer than my mazda mx6 which has a stock clutch and pressure plate. The clutch holds solid on the max, I mean I can rip through 3rd and 4th gear like its nothing.
