Can someone offer me up some basic tips on breaking in a new Maxima (GXE)? Anything specific to the Nissan I should know? Thanks!

I waited til my 1st oil change which was at 3000 miles. I stayed off the highways and tried not to surpass 3000rpms. From what I've read from this forum, ppl usually wait up to 5000 miles or there are those that just don't have patience and abuse their cars after the 1st week or so.....
Just drive at low speeds for about a month and avoid long distance drives.

What is actually considered

A long distance? I just got a 01 SE manual and am being very careful with her. Has to last a L O N G time. I have to
drive 30 miles to work, mostly highway. Otherwise I have to get up 2 hours earlier for city traffic. I am following the handbook recommended under 4K shifting, no heavy acceleration and actually keeping it at legal speeds. Is that 15-20 minutes at 65 - 70 considered a long time? Can someone explain to me what happens if you should not follow these steps (more than it will mess up the motor)? Thanks.

If you drive at a constant speed for a long time during the break in, the engine seals may not properly seat. By driving at different speeds, you will be changing engine speed and will help the seals to set. I would say vary youur speed +/- 10 mph every 5 minutes or so. Maybe even drive in different gears to vary engine revs.

I also bought a 2k1 max about a month ago. I was thinking of taking it to miami, fl for spring break. I live in Atlanta. the car has just over 1000 miles on it. Do you guys recommend agaisnt me doing this? or will it be ok as long as i don't floor it or keep it at a constant speed?

dude...take it easy on your car! trust me! don't do the same mistake i did. i just had under 1000 miles and was racing on it and reving it up to 6,000rpm's!! i also took it to mexico. now i see my car has poor gas mileage and the tranny is slightly starting to slip a tiny bit. thats what i get for not reading the manual :/
