Help with my alarm...

I have a 2001 Max SE, and I am having trouble with my alarm. I think it's in "valet" mode, which mechanics keep telling me over the phone. They tell me that there's either a way with the key chain, or there should be a switch underneath the dash by the steering wheel? I have tried pressing the unlock and lock at the same time, and other possible sequences with the key chain, but no luck. I looked under the steering wheel, maybe I missed it, but I coudn't see anything. I'm wondering if I take off the battery for a second, will it reset the alarm? Does anyone have any suggestions towards this matter..?

If it is the factory alarm (nissan key fob), opening the door with the key will disable the alarm. If you lock the doors with the key, wait 30 seconds before reaching in the car and opening the door.

right, but I know that the alarm is definitely disabled, because the sounds of turning off the alarm is not there anymore like it used to be. I think I might have unknowingly set some type of code through the "nissan key fob".
Also, when I mentioned that I locked the doors, I was inside the car and pressed the alarm to "ON", and then I unlocked the door, and no alarm.

by the way, thx for the quick replies... but I'm still wondering if I undo the battery for a second, will it reset the alarm...?

What do you want alarm to do ?

I never had my alarm going on, its like keyless entry for me. Maybe if someone broke the window it went on, but thats it.

If you have an after market alarm you should also have an extra led somewhere. With mine that light is off when it's in valet mode (or a steady on not sure). When I got my alarm installed they never showed my where the switch was, I had to go back and make them point it out to me. They put mine on the side of the dead pedal back about three inches, it's a small metal button.

To turn my alarm off I turn off the car and press that button within 30 seconds.

To turn it back on, after turning the car off press the button within 30 seconds.

My button is pretty easy to hit while getting out of the car by mistake, but it sounds like your factory alarm is disabled as well. Weird

Buy the way taking the battery off will reset your ECU and I think that's bad (you have to reprogram it, other threads on that)

If you have an aftermarket DEI alarm (Viper, Clifford, Sidewinder, etc), try this:

1) Open the driver's door
2) Press the arm button (doors should try to lock)
3) Press the disarm button (doors should try to unlock)
4) Press the arm button again (the LED should go off)

Then close the door and try to arm the car again. It should be out of valet mode.

Actually guys, I'm not too sure if it's a factory or if it's aftermarket, because I bought it at the dealership and they installed it, I'm guessing it's not. I have an LED light on the front panel next to my steering wheel, and it's constantly on right now, when before this mishap, it used to blink. I tried to look for the button underneath and couldn't differentiate what or where the button was because of all the wires. But I'll see if I see a metal one tonite.
Hey PWRLFT,
I'm alittle lost when you say "dead pedal back", where exactly is that?

The dead pedal is where your left foot should be while you are driving, it's that piece of leather sewn into the floor.
In my picture below the dead peddle is the U and the . is the button.

Automatic:
U. [ ] []
Manual:
U. [] [] []

Anyway if you stick your head down where your break peddle is and look left you should see it. By the way LED on all the time it's in valet mode. Flashlight will help.

Good Luck, and if you still can't find it do what I did pull into the service center park where they can't ignore you, tell them you just want to ask a quick question. Don't forget to smile.

Good luck

cpakolipse: If you have that red light and it is lit solid, my method posted above should work to get it out of valet mode. But for future reference, you need to visit your dealer and find out where they put the little button.

True! (if its a DEI) I have a Viper

Or you can turn the key to "on " position and press the disable button mounted under your dash
