Just got remote start. Question/Problem....

OK, I went to get the remote start put in. I just wanted the basic start setup, no alarm... ($300 w/tax)... The guy told me start it and it will run for 15 minutes then shut off.. But, if I approach the car before the 15 minutes are up and the car recognizes the OE FOB the car will shut off, which it does.. So i end up starting it twice every time I use it.. I've tested it for 10 minutes and it still shuts off, I'm going to test closer to 12 minutes and see what happens. Anyone else experience this? The brand is Avital 4113 (basic one button remote).

EDIT: I just went 18 minutes, It didn't even shut off at 15.

I'm suprised the guy who installed it for you didn't test it before handing it back to you. There is something wrong here and if it were mine it would be back at his place first thing this morning.

It doesn't matter how long you leave the car running for, as the result will always be the same. On a technical level, there's likely nothing wrong with the installation itself. The problem comes from which bypass module he used, and what diagram he followed. Some modules do not allow for secure takeover. Secure takeover is where you unlock the car, jump in, and simply drive away.
The Avital unit you have isn't a bad unit. It's made by Viper.

Your problem may be as simple as having the guy who installed it re-program the system to your car.

I'm trying to find a shop that will install one that won't shut off. So far they all say I'll have to restart it due to the possibility of theft.

I wonder if they are all like that because we have push button start. Does anyone have a set up where it doesn't shut off?

I had a compustar installed over the weekend. The module is set automatically to run only 15min. Prob can do more but I don't think I need that long. If i get to my car before the 15 min are up and open the door.. All I need to do is press the brake, put it in gear and go. No need to restart

I installed my own system (Viper) and I have the older firmware remote start and Ijust get in and press the start button twice (acc, then on) and press the brake pedal and go. No restart.

I like this set up better and the keyless go setups they currently use.

does anyone know the name of the module or whatever is needed to not have the car shut off when the FOB is recognized? I'm going today to re-program the time it stays on, and I would like to bring it up to them.

I have the viper smart start with a bypass module "express kit" with the correct firmware for Nissan specific compatible with the 7th gen. When I come to the car I can open the door and and all I have to do is press on the brake and intake control. Now this is tricky the timing on the push to start cars have to be very precise or the take over fails and even the remote start doesn't work. Took it to my experienced guy from best buy and it was a great job. The smart start is an additional $300 bucks but I don't have to carry another key and can start my car from anywhere in the world. But cost $90 a year and u can also track your car from anywhere and get alerts directly to your phone.

To the OP, was just wondering if your car shuts off when you approach it with your key fob, what happens if you approach the car without the key fob? Can you just get in it and drive away without the fob. If you can what a gift you are presenting.

Xpresskit DB-ALL Module. But you will have the keylessgo firmware. Unlock the car and you have 45 seconds to get in the car and press the brake pedal before the car shuts off.

Dan and I have the older firmware. I love it.

This is the module I had installed this past week and I have no issues like you are having OP.

I can start the car and lock/unlock from either key fob. Once remote started I have 45 seconds before it turns off and you just press the brake.

I got the Viper 5904 w/ remote start and some more add-ons as well.

I definitely am liking the setup I just got and glad I got it....just wish I had gotten sooner without having to deal with what I did

Wait, so your remote start only keeps the car on for 45 seconds? How do you warm the car up then?

I think he means after its started and warmed.... once the car recognizes the FOB, at that point he has 45 seconds before it shuts off, as opposed to mine where it shuts off right away.

Ahh. Interesting. That sort of sounds annoying. Mine just has the timer you set for the remote start and turns off after that, default is 15 minutes. If you get in before then you can take over, otherwise you just start it after its auto shut off.

There are two options at the time I got it the easy way was setup up for me to hit the start button twice to on and hit the brake like actually having a turn key version. I took it further to the step where u only have to hit the brake for take over "easy takeover". Back in 2010 there was issues doing that way but my guy hooked it up and figured it out.

For timing the situation was for the thread starter who's car turns off when he gets in, for him to tell his installer to go back and check the wrong for takeover portion.

My 2012 has the same Avital 4113 installed by dealer with basic one button remote. The engine does not shutoff if I unlock the car with the OE FOB or press the door unlock button on the door. Once it is unlock by either method, I can drive without the need to push the start button. There have to be a setup adjustment that can be done by the installer.

Haha I did word that weird.

No my remote start is set for 20 minutes. If I press the unlock button before that time ends, then the 45 second thing kicks in and I just push the brake to keep it on and drive.

It was more in reference to the OP saying they had to start the car again once they get in.

I have Pursuit Pro9056 installed by a company for Carmax. I had it installed on a 2010 Maxima. I didn't pay any attention to the lady when she was telling me how it worked. But I was having the same problem of having to start my car after I tried to get in and drive off. I found that when I get in, I have to press and hold the brake pedal down for 10 secs and it switches from my remote start system to my normal system and it does not turn off as it did previously. Now I remote start anywhere inside my house, go and enter my Maxima, press and hold brake for 5 to 10 secs and I drive off. I have a transponder or antennae by my rearview mirror. Whille holding the brake for takeover, it blinks twice like my remote startn key fobic does.
