hey

I would like to add some tints to my 2000 grey lustre maxima gle.
I am thinking about 35% in the front sides and 20% in the back.
Can someone please tell me if that configuration is legal in nyc?
Anyone know any quality installers in the queens area?

Any Advice about tinting will be appreciated.

Hey, sorry to make this off-topic but I was wondering if you were having any slippage between first and second gears. I also own a 2k Gle, and it seems to be a common problem among the 2k maxima. Whenever, i floor the car i get a sudden jerk at higher rpm's before the car switches gears. The problem is, that it slows the car down!!! I also own a 2k2 and that doesn't have any problems...its pretty weird.....

any tint is illegal in NY.

Note : Very strict law. Replacement glass that is tinted is allowed if and only if the original windows were tinted as well. Medical exemption is provided for with permission from Commisioner of Motor Vehicles.

Tint IS NOT Illeagal in nys. The law is states that there needs to be 75% light transmition from your front side windows. The backs can be painted black if so inclined. The is also a limit on how big the front stripe on the front window is but I'm not sure what it is.

 

I have your color and I have Formula 1 tint, metallic reflective, as dark as allowed in AZ. Good for heat reflection and privacy. Lifetime warranty. Any fading, streaking, running get you free replacement.

If you look at the DMV site it will explain the laws. I have an 03 Grey Luster with 20% all around. I have a smoked tint rather than black or metalic and have never had a problem with cops or inspections.

 

I nyc i think mit's illegal to have any tint on the front windows. But you can have any kind of tint on the back.

 

NY is legal for all front and back windows. NJ it is illegal for front tints at all. I know this for a fact. I have moved from NYC to NJ.

 

I had 20% on my SE-R and the cops would ALWAYs pull me over and give me a ticket. I redid the car in 35% and never had a problem. I put 35% on my max and never had a problem either. I like a darker tint, but driving at night with 20% was no good..

 

As far as I know, traveling and living in NY briefly, tint was illegal; unless you got a doctor's note.

 

Yea I dont think the black paint thing would work either I was just giving everyone the ideal. I like the way the 35% looks in the pic I think thats the way I'm going with mine.

35% is cool and shouldn't be a problem.

Here's the thing about tint in NYC. In my experience, cops pull you over at their own discretion. Rarely will they pull you over just for having dark tint. Usually it'll be for some other violation (e.g. speeding, blasting your stereo past 80 decibals...) you're guilty of. They just add tint to the list and jack up the fine in the process.
