I remember reading something on my insurance about aftermarket accessories, I think it said anything over $1000 is not covered unless you tell them that you have it and they look at it.

It is different depending on the company...

I have State Farm and they cover anything BOLTED to the car, they will cover my deck but not my cd's, etc.

true it depends on the insurance carrier and their policy... i just recently had a hard time getting insurance to repair aftermarket equip after someone did a hit and run on my brothers car... if you can afford it thougn, i'd definately reccommend it, you never know when you're going to need it...

I don't think insurance will cover aftermarket parts. When you insure your car, the insurance gives you the quote assuming that your car is stock. Anything else that you add has to be insured seperately.

When J-Lo can insure her fat @ss, I am sure for a little extra, you can insure all your aftermarket parts...

my insurance carrier is CSE, and recently my brother's car was victim of a hit and run. Pretty much the whole front end had to be replaced, hood - bumpers body kit - HID Projector retrofit... the insurance company (according to my policy) only covers factory parts, meaning they dont give rats a$$ about no body kit or no HID projectors, they wouldn't even fork out 90 bux for a bra (factory bra) !!! They said if I paid a higher premium to cover all my aftermarket parts, that'd be a different story. In my case, it would have been worth it to pay a couple extra per month for that ease of mind knowing my "modded" car will be covered if anything happens.

So to answer your question correctly, i'd reccommend you call your ins. carrier and ask them if they will cover your modds, and if they say they will, get it in writing !!

Hope this helps...

I think it's true about what most of the guys saying about the aftermarket kit. It depends on your insurance company if there's a policy or coverage for that. A friend of mine had a lot of aftermarket bodykit, when he got hit. The insurance only paid for the factory car parts, the aftermarket is not considered OEM parts which it was not covered. He had Farmer Insurance Group. I hate that insurance company, I used to insured with them they screwed me a lot with the Subey.

just remember if you tell your insurance they might raise the price on you to compensate for what the addition will cost them in an accident

they clearly state that the premium will be higher for adding aftermarket parts, but if you think about it... a couple bux a month compared to literally thousands worth in mods... i think its worth it...
