i got 59,700 miles on my 00 auto max and i was going to get a full tune up on Friday(fuel filter replace, spark plugs)
Anyway, i saw the Bosch Platinum 2 Sparks at Autozone. The Autozone guy said that the these would give more power over the oem platinums. Are Bosch any good and has anyone had these on their max and noticed a difference in power, pickup, smoothness?? Thanks alot

 

He's lying to you. A spark is a spark. A long as the stock ones are sparking properly, or are capable of it, there is no way that the ones at autozone can give you more power.

I personally went with a new set of the stock platinum ones from the dealership. I hated paying $11/piece, but at least I know there will be no issues related to plugs.

 

Did you notice any noticeable performance differences? When did you change your plugs?

 

I did at 60k. they are good for 100k supposedly, but many recommend an earlier change. One of mine was slightly bad (I think due to a bad coil though and not the plug's fault), and others say that if you wait until 100k they'll be a buggar to take out.

I can't say I noticed any difference when i did it, since mine were in decent shape to begin with.

 

A spark is a spark, but a spark "eats" away the metal over time and soon you'll have bigger gap than you want to have. Spark plugs with proper gap will give you more power and better mpg than spark plugs with big gaps.

I have used Bosch Platinum +2 and +4's with various other cars, and I'm not impressed with the design, particularly the center electrode... the center electrode on those +2 and +4's are a VERY, VERY tiny pure platinum toothpick-wide piece of metal sticking out. On a pair of Platinum+4's, I noticed that tiny center electrode actually melted and stretched out in all 4 directions, resulting in a strange looking 4-point-star shaped thing in place of the center electrode.

I'd just buy NGKs and get over it. The Autozone guy sounds like he was pitching you salesman talk.

 

I would say stick with the NGK Dual Platinum tip plugs that are OEM on your Max. I've also heard stories on other plugs that will not run right on your engine, personally, I think its really a matter of quality control, Bosch vs NGK, and I would use NGK for two reasons, 1. its OEM, 2. I've never had a problem with them, I've gone through 5 sets, starting with my 95 max and now my 00 I30t. If you want to save some money order the plugs from an internet dealer such as Courtesy Nissan or others, you can find from this forum. You can probably go with the regular NGK Copper plugs if you want to save money, the only difference would be changing the plugs every 30k, as opposed to 100k or what I like to do, every 60k. The Autozone guy was just telling you what the marketing guy was telling him or what he also saw in some advertisement.

I'm running the Bosch Platinum +4's in my Max and no problems here. I installed them at around 55K, and I didn't really notice a power increase either....

 

Have any one heard of Denso? Are they any good or better than bosch??
