Come on Nissan, do you really think this is not a problem? Do you really expect people to buy another Nissan vehicle with the chance they paint quality will be just as bad? I hope not, because I've bought my last Nissan!

F' Nissan!!! F'em and their cheapass paint!!!

I've really got to start avoiding those stones...

Took my car in today for another paint issue and pointed out the hood with more chips than a bag of cookies. I was told that I need to avoid areas with stones and the like! They were not aware of any paint issues at all, and were suprised that I would think such a thing. I suggested that they may want to enlighten themselves by checking out maxima.org, and as expected, I was brushed off.

But, they do have someone from Nissan who is going to look at my car to see why I have a quarter-sized spot that is slightly discolored at certain angles. The folks at the dealership were stumped.

Oh, they must mean those places called streets and roads.

How did Nissan not repaint your hood?? It's obvious the paint is flaking off. When I spoke with Nissan Customer Service, they told me to call BBB (Better Business Bureau) and file a complaint and a third party would address the issue. Have you done that? Thanks

I am so tired of it now. I am just going to repaint it when the suspension and wheels/tires go on. For now it is just my beater car which saddens me to think the Max is in the worst shape. Not a single chip on the Camaro (knock on wood), Nissan can't possibly think they have good paint. By the way my chips started before I got the car, I noticed touch up paint on the nose of the car to cover up chips and have never used touch up paint on it. So I had hidden chips the day I bought it "NEW"!

I would like to thank Nissan for making me a wizard at the use of touch up paint.. i am now a certifed touch up paint technitian.. my work is so good that you could not evn notice where my chips used to be. i've gone thru a few bottles at 5 bucks a whack at the dealership.. but i can say that my hood ad side panels will be protected from salt and corrotion this coming winter... or for the next ride on the highway

P.S. why paint your car over when there is touch up paint?

Have you seen the commercial where the Maxima color comes off as it's being driven? I thought that this was very appropriate. I had to laugh as it started. They show the front of the car with the paint pealing away. Perfect.

YES!!! I saw that one too!

I thought maybe it's Nissan's way of covering their azz with truth in advertising. Now when someone complains, they can say I told you so. At least now they are being honest about their CHEAPASS PAINT!!!

F'you Nissan!!!

I can't say I've had a lot of paint chips but the rattles and squeaks and pitted windshield are much worse than on our truck which has 30% more miles. Any ideas on how to fill the micropits in the windshield?

My 2002SE with 5K miles is chipping excessively with almost 100% nice-day highway use. Not only that, but the chips get bigger almost overnight. I thought this was just me before I found this forum thread....I'm all for a class action on this one.

This was my pattern of use. Not only was the paint easily chipped but the plastic bumper was easily damaged. I would notice tiny divets and indentations from hitting bugs. I know there are some big things in Texas but our bugs are not big enough to damage cars. It's not just a finish problem but a durability issue with the plastic as well.

Similar paint issue on new 350Z

I have the new 350Z, and after reading many of your comments about the Maxima's easily hipable paint, I've realized that this problem has not ended with you all.

What's being done about it? anything?

I've said it earlier in this thread and I'll say it again... I broker legal services and a situation like this would be PERFECT for my people to take care of. I've helped out other .org members with other problems and they've all been satisfied.

I'll have my attorney's throw in a free letter/or phone call for you and whatever else needs to be done I'll give you .org gentlemen (or ladies) a 25% discount off their standard hourly rate.

It's worth a try isn't it?

Shoot me an email at lcf@digitalrice.com and let's talk about it.

Seriously! We're talking about your baby aren't we?

Re: Same problem here

I too own a super black 2k SE w/ major paint chips all over the front, up the hood, on the roof and down to the rear trunk lid. Three of my other cars are in perfect condition, including a 1987 5.0 GT. In fact my Max has more chips on it that all three combined. I demand a repaint!

Paint Chips

I noticed a paint chip on my new 2003SE after driving it home with 120 miles!!! Something needs to be done about this, If nissan cares for its customers, something has to happen. If not, then I will never buy another nissan again!

That would be just as useful as ****ing up a rope.

We have all been characterized by Nissan as a bunch of **** retentive car owners who go ballistic at every hint of a scratch. And whenever we show these chips to a dealer we get the usual set of patented responses: "Don't tailgate" or "It doesn't look bad to me" or even "That's normal wear and tear".

I got the "don't drive on bad roads speech." Incidentally, he used that same line on me when he denied to cover my fuel filler splash guard under warranty. At least a call to Nissan North America resolved the second issue, but with the paint thing, I think nothing short of a major lawsuit will help.

Have you guys seen the commercial where the Max is going so fast the paint is coming off the car... Is the car really that fast or is the paint just that bad? Its kind of ironic that Nissan would choose to make such a commercial with all this talk about the poor quality of their paint. I too have many chips and scratches all over my 2001 SE. I had someone lean again the side of my car (I could have Killed him because I knew what would happen) sure enough when he walked away there 5 or 6 new scratches.

They could easily fix the problem. Before they're sold, all Maximas should have to go through the Xterra plant. I had a 2000 Xterra, and I used to BRAG about the quality of the paint! Don't know if it's a different paint process, or if they just put good paint on it for the first model year, but it was indestructable. I had Super Black, without the door-ding guards, and it got smacked hard in several different parking lots. Every time I thought my paint was chipped, it actually ended up being a chip of paint from the other car's door! It didn't have a scrath on it when I traded it for the Max.

I've had my 2003 GLX for 1 month today and I hate the amount of paint chips. There is one spot on the rear bumper that is especially bad. I accused my wife of backing into something but see no evidence except for an area of chips. I'm extremely interested in hearing if anyone has a solution. Is it worth the effort to complain to the dealer or will it just raise my blood pressure?

The dealer will probably turn you down but you still need to start there. After they turn you down, call Nissan consumer affairs.

Yoy thinks that's bad I just got pelted yesterday with grain from a grain truck and now got more paint chips then my old car ever did. I got an estimate to see how much it would cost to repaint my car the 350Z blue and it's around $3,000.00.

Can't you get your insurance to pay for it? Was the estimate for the front end of the car of for the whole car?

F' Nissan and they crappyazz paint! Keep the thread alive so maybe, just maybe, someone will read about the paint chips BEFORE they buy their Maxima. I had the bad luck of finding this thread 1 week after I bought mine.

You know your paint sucksazz, don't you Nissan? Yes, I think you really do. Are you just hoping that we will all forget about it when we go to buy our next Nissan, err I mean our next car? I won't forget and I won't be driving another Nissan.

I get a daily reminder of how little respect I have left for Nissan everytime I walk out to my Maxima each morning.

Anyone have a number or email address for Carlos Ghosn? He must never reads these forums or I'm sure he would have contacted me by now. Hey Carlos, your cheap-azz Nissan paint is F'ing crap! I've had a harder time getting butter off a knife than I do chipping the paint of my Maxima.

OMG this thread is still alive! I don't even have the car I was driving when I started it almost 2 years ago. I can report that paint chips on my 02 SE have been almost non-existant! I think I have 1 or two pin size spots. BUT, I do run with a full nose mask. I'm sure that has helped. If it is any consolation...I've seen many brands more costly than nissan with chippy paint...it's not just us, guys!
