2K-2k1 tails

hey all, (i can't access the search) been thinking about switching my OEM 2K2 tails with the 2K-2K1 black or red tails. they look like they would fit, but i don't want to assume that they will. i'll start w/ the local junkyard, anywhere else i can get this "cheap". any advice is appreciated. thx for you time.
*PS: i looked at the FAQ... there is no "browse" link for me to add pics from my comp, i tried the "attach image" link but couldn't figure out how it worked. how can i do this? thx.

I did this also, they are an exact fit. However, you will need to buy wiring harnesses from the 2001 model year due to the blinker cut out on the 02 tails being a diff size than the blinker cutout on the 2k1 tails. The 2k2 plug for the blinker WILL NOT fit the 2K1 housing... You will also need to get new blinker bulbs, because you are going from an amber tail to a clear tail and the 2k2 bulbs are clear, and also because the new harness requires a push and twist bulb instead of the kind that is on the 2K2 that pushes straight in

They are a direct fit, I bought some (just in case I ever wanna switch back) and it takes about 15 min to install them. You will need an 8mm ratchet and a roll of that gunk to seal the tails to the body. The bulbs are indeed different, but if you buy the whole assembly (from Dave Burnette for example) you get everything you need to do the job. Good luck.

ebay!

i've got a how-to that you can find out how to remove and/or install them when you get ready.

it will also show you how to tint/smoke your tails if you want to do it yourself. check it out:

Why anyone would want to change the tails of a 02-03 to the appearance of an older car in my opinion is senseless-
Maxima drivers would think
its a 2k1 and the rest of the driving population doesnt know the difference or care for that matter-

and now with 2k/2k1 guys getting our headlights-
the 5.5 gens are loosing identity -

alot of fake **** Maximas driving around

This is easily the stupidest thing I've read today.

Are you THAT worried that your car is 'losing identity'? I'm a 2000 with 2002/2003 taillights, sorry to be stealing your car's identity, I just thought it looked better on my car than the ugly stock ones did. In fact, you know what, now I'm going to go get some HID's, 2k2/2k3 seats, 2k2/2k3 gauges, that funny little button that opens up my cup holder for me, a heated steering wheel and a 6-speed swap and drive by your house each night to torment you....

You were wrong when you said "Maxima drivers would think its a 2k1 and the rest of the driving population doesnt know the difference or care for that matter" -- NO ONE will care, just you....

hmmmm....Manny, did your car lose it's "identity" when you replaced the original red and orange side marker lights with those clears? So why is that any diff than this guy wanting the older taillights. Personally, I prefer the 2k-1 tails over the 2k2-3 tails. That's just my opinion....so I will keep my black tails....also will put 3" magnaflow tips (like yours) on....hope I do not lose the "identity" of my car without the ugly "uni-tip" thingy....

True
Its obvious that it comes down to what you personally want your car to look like- I just stated my opinion

its just deceiving- but I can understand due to HID theft how some 2k2-3 owners are forced to do
the makeover (this being the only reason)

I know throwbacks are in style but damn.....

"Stupidest"

We have an Einstein in the house with great vocabulary.....did you put that word together yourself off the alphabits that fell off your cereal bowl?

As mentioned by another org member "opinions are like aszholes, everybody's got one!"

Not so sure this has anything to do with HID theft....the people stealing them can tell the difference between HID and 2k-1 headlights....switching to black tails is unlikely to fool them. Besides, this HID theft thing only seems to be a major problem in the NY/NJ area.....haven't heard that much about it in other areas (at least not around here). I just think the reason is alot of people don't like the 2k2-3 tails (I don't)....but like the 2k2-3 engine....it's alot cheaper to get the 2k-1 tails on a 2k3 than to put a 2k2-3 engine in a 2k-1 hehe.....Then again, alot of people like the 2k2-3 tails and put them on the 2k-1's....each to his own.

Bottom line...I think it's a matter of style, not a matter of HID theft....

Yeah, and throwbacks are in mad style. I am installing a CB (not CD) radio, 8-track player, fuzzy dice, and narrow front tires with fat rears.....damn it will look tight! Not.

Dark-colored Maximas look better with the smoked tail lights. I know that for a fact because I'm changing my tail lights soon. SMART Maxima drivers would know the difference between a 2k1 and a 2k2. And what's wrong with losing identity?
