Does anyone ever notice, who has an automatic, then when the car is cold...not COMPLETELY cold, but not full warmed up and shifted enough, that the tranny shifts a LOT smoother under3k RPMS?!?!? When I first get into my car the tranny shifts so smoothly at low RPM's. By the time the car warms up, after about half the trip to work, if I don't make the car shift over 3k RPM's out of 1st and 2nd gear the car kind of bucks. Now not a bad buck...not something that would be seen as WRONG or MALFUNCTIONING, but just KIND OF noticable. I'm not THAT upset about it or worried, but I just happen to notice it...when I do I make it shift around 3k RPM's or above and it's fine, so it sets my mind at ease. Why the hell does that happen? You'd think with less power throwing towards the gears, it wouldn't have to compensate as much and shift easier. NOT the other way around. Oh well....GO NISSAN WITH YOUR MIGHTY TRANNY'S! *SARCASM*

Haven't noticed that. I had a problem with my tranny slipping when it was cold. This was resolved with the new solenoid assembly.

All I've noticed is a loud *BANG* and sparks flying out of my tailpipe with every shift. My dealer says its normal. I now get 4 mpg and one of the wheels fell off. My dealer duct taped the wheel back on and sent me on my way. I love their service!

Auto Tranny

I have a 2000 SE w/Auto and so far no problems. With only 5,600 miles it seems perfect.
I did read from another owner that some early cars had problems with the autos and they were changed without any hassle from the dealer under warrantee. You might want to ask your dealer if your car is one of those.

My dealer said the louder the bang, the more efficient my car is. How do you get 3 MPG? I'm only getting 2 MPG. You must baby your car.

I appreciate the thought Mike, but my TCM and solenoid (through the TSB) has already been replaced, solving the problem that I think you're referencing. It's AFTER the fact that I've noticed this....as well as before.

auto tranny when cold

My tranny slips from 1st to 2nd when cold, but only when it's really cold (below around 35 degrees). It only does it the first time, after that all shifts are fine. I've got about 8800 miles on my 2000 SE. I'm wondering if this will get worse, or should I just forget about it. It's not a major problem now, but if it gets worse or happens more frequently I'm taking it in.

Hey Paul, after replacing with the new solenoid assembly. Do you still experience slipping in your auto tranny? If not, do you think the 1/4 miles or 0-60 time has improved due to new solenoid and new TCM??
I am still waiting for mine, since it's on back order since three weeks ago..how did you get your so soon???

thanks
Tim

Re: auto tranny when cold

It's going to get worst for sure. Mine first did that way back in 99 winter and now it slips for every 1st - 2nd shift.
I think you should take it to the dealer as soon as possible though the dealer would say "cannot reproduce symtom" and would conclude that your car is normal (which you know it's not).

Yep. The new solenoid assembly took care of the problem. The TCM I got 7 months ago took care of the intial slowness in shifts. About 3 months ago, my car began slipping only when cold. The new solenoid took care of that problem. I might have to test out the results.
