Value of Aftermarket Clutch

max.Org,

The maxima went to the shop this morning for some transmission work (2k w/ 75k miles), and the tech suggested I replace the clutch since everything's open and there'd be no additional labor charge. Thinking about doing it since I plan on keeping the car for a while, but have a few questions:

1. At 75k, should I even be thinking about replacing the clutch, or just keep it in and ride it until I can't ride it anymore?

2. For everyday driving, is it worth getting an ACT stage 1 clutch, or should I stick w/ OEM replacement? No plans to do any serious performance modding.

3. Any decrease in useful life between aftermarket and OEM?

4. Currently looking at pricing for comparison, but any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

IMO the stock clutch will do fine by you. But an aftermarket clutch will grab better and engage much more easily than an oem.

i had about 80,000+ miles when i replaced my stock clutch for an aftermarket clutch. when i took the disk out, i found out that i still had decent amount of material left on the clutch disk, i could have driven for at least another 10,000 miles or so.( but i guess that kind of depends on how people drive).

only reason i went with aftermarket disk was because i was going to use NOS and i wanted something a little bit better than stock disk. if you plan on modifing your car in the near future, do get the aftermarket clutch, if not, go with stock clutch.

Under the same condition, I guess the aftermarket clutch disk like the ACT will probably last longer.
