I would be extremely careful messing around with the steering wheel parts. The airbag module is located in the area of the steering wheel controls. If you make a wrong move. KABOOM! You will get an expensive scare.

As I remember it, there were 5 screws from the underside, 3 holding the upper and lower parts together and 2 holding the lower part to something else. To be safer, unscrew all 5. At that point, its only a few clips holding the upper and lower parts together. These can be seperated with gentle pressure. To help with maneuvarability, lower the wheel tilt lever to let the wheel move. You shouldn't be able to trigger the airbag just by doing this, but don't go digging around too much once you got the cover off.
